Oh i see, your soft topper is way inboard of the bed.

in a perfect world, would you have preferred a 1.5" thick chainlink instead of the spacer?

    That would be great!
Let me know when you have a chainlink shaped spacer available.
    Thanks

i'm really beginning to lean towards making generic 1/2" spacers in the same shape/size as the chainlink so a customer could just order them and space to suit. they'd require longer bolts but that's hardly the end of the world. the other option would be round spacers approx the same diameter as the round parts of the body, since they'd be significantly faster to make on the lathe.

Round spacer was my first thought, went with block shape for better support

    Wheely cool product, OP!
Unfortunately my main whip is a 4-bolt slo-release fork, so this isn't for me.
    For now.

i'd say unconventional, not uncool. the argument about which pedal setup is best is almost as bad as which tires/oil should i run in my tacoma

Lol, I was worried this would happen!
No my friend, you are supremely cool.
My level of commitment to my bike is vastly inferior to yours, whilst riding around!
Hell, sometimes I feel my 510s and flats make it too hard to bail out...
No, no! A tip of the hat to you, sir!

ok guys i've been noodling on this and i think round spacers are going to be WAAAY easier to manufacture than chainlink shapes. for those of you who want/need spacers for your rigs, what do you think about these images?

the diameters match the body of the chain link, so they'll blend/disappear pretty well imho.

I tested out some round spacers last night.

Ended up with 2” of them to get the wheel to just clear my screen. With another 1/2” I think I would be in the clear— but I think I’m gonna try a drop bracket first. These spacers are ear marked for another project...

with that said it still felt pretty sturdy even with 2” of spacers.

    that looks really good!

the good news is that wheels aren't very heavy, so you should be fine even spaced out at 2". and validates that a slightly larger OD spacer is going to be good as well.

    thanks for the update!

Ok … going for the most overthought solution to this hahahha

I had the aluminum laying around and a free hour to kill so I bent this up. Used the original double T-nut up top and the chain link below.

Bonus—— I think the highlift will still fit when the wheel and thru axle Aren’t there

    1A722420-AB9A-476B-B850-836B63B2C3CF.jpg F740ED84-684F-42AC-96C2-13D38A60170F.jpg

Positions the wheel so it sits just on the floor and clears my windows with plenty of space.

Gonna run this for a bit and see how it goes. If I decide I like it I’ll get a solid piece of aluminum to make it out of instead of the 2 pieces. If I don’t I’ll just run a bunch of spacers cause that was pretty sturdy.

Again—- this is specifically for my set up with a Leer 180. If I had an open bed this would have been a simple endeavor and and absolute no brained to run.

Also for anyone whose gotten these- throw a small dab of grease on the thru-axle threads and it threads in smooth as butter

and a little dab of grease is probably a good idea

Finally got mine installed, pretty stoked about it. Previously the wheel would get bounced around all over the back unless I bungee'd it down. Now it mounts behind the frame which also frees up space. The bike rests on crank arm against the wheel well so there is no weight against the wheel.

Scrolling from the prior page mention of round spacers had me wondering if one could be made that could angle the mount down a bit rather than hold it perpendicular to the bed wall. There are currently a couple inches between the wheel and bed wall at the bottom of the wheel. Rather than being upright, the wheel would be held at an angle with the bottom closer to the bed wall and the top inward. This would eliminate the need for additional spacers and let the wheel take up less space.

angles are a super interesting idea. they'd allow you to tune the fit since they'd rotate independently! they'd be slightly harder to make than flat ones, but could be a good experiment for sure!

flat ones are hopefully starting this weekend and i'll see about doing some angles.

Well, the original thought was the disk rotor would go inboard to prevent it from getting dorked, which would be even more important with your setup since you bike could potentially bounce. But the other thing is, the angle would have to be specific to your tire width. So part two of the design was that the tire would rest on the wheel well of the truck bed.

Good point on specific angles for wheel sizes
