Yes. On the Dakar pack I took off that second leaf goes all the way back to the rear eye on the spring.

Adding another near full length leaf will add a bunch of spring rate to the pack. If the springs hold the load you want at the ride height you want, and you are happy with current ride quality, leave them be. No reason that the main leaf can't handle that much gap to the second leaf on its own.

    Thanks.

Aside from ride height, which is still a little low, they are fantastic. I'm staying off the bump stops now, which is a huge improvement.

There are definitely a recommended upgrade to the Dakar if your truck is fat.

12" travel shocks are an improvement, but I'm still limited by shackle and spring to about 10" of travel.

I'm at 24.5 hub to fender, with the tent and most of my gear. When I full load it goes to 24.

Is it OK to mount a limit strap to my u-bolt flip plate? Wondering if that puts too much stress on the ubolts.

I wouldn't want the added stress to the u bolts.

I would think it depends on how it's mounted. What are you thinking?

I mean, aren't they already holding up all that weight on a daily basis?

Ideally, I would weld a dual sheer tab parallel to the leafs, inbetween the two inner nuts.

It would pull on the plate away from the leafs, which is not a force they typically see. The ubolts aren't really holding any weight, just clamping the leafs to the axle.

Wouldn't you want the tab set up so it's in line with the travel of your axle. What I'm imagining from what you described would want to twist your plate.

Why dont you just weld the tabs on the axle?

Not sure you're imagining it right. Tab that's welded to the plate would be pointed up.

Brake lines and e-brake cables are in the way of where I would mount them to the axle. Could move some of that stuff, but just easier to go to the ubolt plate if that's OK.

Do it! you won't have any issues.

Back in the day Ranger preunners ran shock and limit mounts off the u bolt plates. Most U bolts have a tensile strength close to grade 8 bolts.

It would be offset to the inside though if that matters. Bumps are in the middle. Wish I didn't have all the crap in the way.

Could go outside the frame, but concerned about clearance.

You'll be fine with a decent 0.25 tab, just make sure they are inline with each other at full droop. I can cut you some if I don't have a generic tab on the shelf.

Can you still do some moderate wheeling with a SUA setup? I prefer to go fast in the deserts around Socal, but dont want to miss out on the occasional crawling trips with friends.
