    Rear Mid Travel Setups

Why do I need a mid travel rear suspension?

    1. You want to increase the wheel travel in the rear of your truck. This means the axle/wheel will stuff deeper into the wheel well under compression and droop further when wheels drop out. This provides more stability and traction over various terrain and the ability for the suspension to handle larger obstacles at higher speed.
What does a Mid-Travel Rear Suspension include?
    1. As mentioned before rear mid travel setups include a high quality shock and aftermarket leaf pack that is longer eye to eye. Leaf packs can vary in length, arch, and number of leafs to match the weight being carried in the bed of the truck.
    2. Mid travel rear suspension may also include a Spring Under Axle (SUA) conversion and/or shock relocation kit.
    3. Typically mid travel rear suspension shock relocations do not involve cutting through the bed.
Besides the shocks and leaf springs, what else will I need/need to take into consideration?
    1. Extended Brake Lines - The stock suspension on our trucks is usually limited by the stock shocks. When you add a longer shock you allow the axle and wheel to drop/droop further. The brake lines are mounted to the axle and to the frame and are built to work with stock droop. More droop can stretch/break/or damage the stock brake lines by over extension. Longer brake lines (+2 to +4") are recommended to prevent this. Popular Extended Brake Lines -
    2. Bump Stop Replacement/Modification - With longer shocks and a taller leaf pack, compression can sometimes be limited by the collapsed length of the new shock. To prevent your shock from bottoming out and causing damage you may want need to get taller bump stops. In many cases due to the use of mid travel setups a air bump style bump stop may be preferable due to the smooth operation under compression. Popular Bump Stop Kits - http://iconvehicledynamics.com/shop...acoma-rear-hydraulic-air-bumpstop-system.html http://www.chaosfab.com/2005-2014-Tacoma-Off-Road-Suspension-Accessories.html
What is a Spring Under Axle Conversion?

SOMEBODY ELSE SHOULD FILL IN HERE. MY KNOWLEDGE OF THIS IS NEXT TO NONE

What is a Shock Relocation Kit?

    1. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/rear-shock-relocation-thread.261770/
    2. A shock relocation is a fabricated set of parts used to relocate the mounts for the rear shock. This is beneficial because it allows you to use a longer shock which means a larger travel range. (ie. Old Man Emu Shocks have a collapsed length of 13.85" and an extended length of 23.95" for a travel range of 10.10". King 2.0 12" shocks commonly used with the BAMF shock relocation kit have a collapsed length of 19.585" and an extended length of 31.585" for a travel range of 12".

^Good info, but an AAL is not a MT component IMO. The factory pack still limits the travel. Aftermarket packs are longer eye to eye.

    Yes
I don't think the addition of an add a leaf can be considered mid travel as the stock leaf pack remains in place therefore no gain in travel is going to occur. An add a leaf is simply an inexpensive lift option. IMO rear mid travel can only be achieved with an aftermarket leaf pack and then of course proper length shocks to compliment the capabilities of the new leaf pack.

So who is going to give a quick blurb about SUA?

Quite honestly I wouldn't bother with SUA in this thread. There's plenty of good info in the LT threads about it.
And given the vast majority of the members that populate this thread are oblivious to the world beyond bolt-on, the likelihood of anyone taking advantage of the information is slim (and the info is available here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/considering-long-travel-read-here-first.180457/)
