For sure! Kinda odd that he did that - gotta think that something spooked them and he head butted the car in more of a panic than out of aggression. Like he was getting out of there and nothing was standing in his way.
If I'm in a buffalo jam I usually offer any bikers (pedal or motor) to get in line behind me if they're in the lead position...just in case.

Thanks. We, or at least I, would appreciate that. It always makes us a little nervous when we see them close to the road and all of the gawkers have traffic stopped. I'm sure they hear a lot of motorcycles, but just not sure how they will react. We try to keep moving if at all possible.

Btw, your trip sounds awesome. Really bummed about having to cancel our trip out there this summer.

When I've been through Yellowstone on my bikes I've found I rarely have to worry about it as some idiot tourist yoyo is out snapping pictures of bears or bison. Sometimes when they are displaying clear signs that they aren't comfortable with it though that is somewhat rare since I find most™ of the wildlife seems pretty accustomed to human gawkers.

I try to be nice once in a while
I think you'd be safe unless they feel trapped or threatened - then you never know how they're going to react.
Sorry your trip got canceled :( I'll be sure to post up a few extra pics this summer so you know what you're missing out on!

The animals in the park definitely don't act like normal wild animals but they're still wild and unpredictable. You never know whats going to set them off. The fact that they're not as afraid of humans is a bad thing if you think about it. Normally the animals would run off at the first sight of a human but the animals in the park will just lay there as hoards of tourists gather around and get way too close. Only then does the animal decide that it wants out of the situation and it needs to find an exit route over, around or through the crowds.

Yup....I have a pic somewhere of Toy parked face to face with one of the snow blowers...The top of the blades are higher than the roof!

Last weekend was the end of snowmobile/snowcoach traffic. Only 32 more days until the roads are open for spring!

    This is pretty interesting too...

Hi MTgirl.I recently ran across this thread and I just don’t know what to say. You're amazing! :) You go girl! :)

I think I’d give just about anything to see the things yourphotograph. As I was reading your threadand wondering how you got the courage to go to the places you go and do thethings you do, I was thinking it might be safer for me to hike and camp alonein the mountains than it is to walk to the grocery store. I live in a very different place :(

    Thanks!

I don't really think anything of heading out on my own. But then again I grew up camping and spending time outdoors so I'm just used to it. Now stick me in the middle of a big city and I'd probably have a panic attack!

MTgirl, I keep thinking about your pictures and I have to ask...

Do you ever take rookies on your hiking trips?

Of course - as long as the rookies are up for the adventure. I like taking either someone who hasn't been to the park in a while or never before with me once in a while - then I can see the park through their eyes and find new interesting stuff. I've been down there so much I know there are things that I cruise right past without stopping because I've got some other place I want to visit. When I'm with a new person on a park trip I try to let them decide where to go and we usually and up finding something that I never knew existed or just hadn't bothered to stop at in a while.

Awesome pics and info MTgirl. Thanks! I might have to make a trip up there next year for vacation. This year I'm heading down to Utah.

Two more weeks and then you're leaving for your trip? I'm so jealous but at the same time I just don't know if this is something I could have done. I still would love to try but I just don't know. I tried to do some research on what I would need to prepare for and it got overwhelming because there is so much I don't know and there are soo many people with soo many opinions!

I'm a good runner and think I could walk a long way every day but I don't have any upper body strength. I don't eat very much but I also don't think I'd be able to carry much of anything either and it seems there would be a lot to carry! I don't even know how to dress for daytime travel or how much colder it would get at night. I know I should have asked but then I would have sounded as dumb as I probably sound now.

The only part that was a little scary, and I know this sounds silly, but I was having a panic attack thinking about if I would be able to fall sleep with all the different sounds and where do you go when you have to go to the bathroom! It didn't seem so bad to think about at first. It actually feels very exciting to think about sleeping under the stars. Then I would start to over think things and started to worry about whether I could relax enough to either sleep or, well...you know!

Will this be your only trip this summer? The pictures you post, I think, are the most exciting things I've ever seen in my life. I hope you have a safe and wonderful time! Yea MTgirl!!!

    MTgirl,

My first post on TW and you get it (must be your lucky day). Why you? Well, love your photo's and where you take them. If you look at my profile you'll see that I live in WY although it's the 'meh' part. I do have a daughter and her family that live in the Jackson area and usually get there a couple of times a year. Last weekend I was there and well, just stunned by the beauty every time no matter the season.

Another reason is that I have to ask about the name posted in your profile, that is 'wessa'. Also know that your name is Lisa, but would like to know the 'wessa' story. When my daughter (the one now in the Jackson area) was in the learning to talk stage she had a great deal of difficulty pronouncing 'eases' and for a long time called her older sister as 'lista'. It was not welcome and many words, harshly said, came from the senior sister. If you care to share, what's your story?

I think your summer tour would fun, but probably not possible for me at this time.

two more weeks until the park opens for the summer - well today actually!

    YELLY IS OPEN!!!!

I'll be heading down Sunday for my annual opening weekend trip. Love it. Best of winter and summer all rolled into one minus the crowds.

I think its all a matter of what we've grown up with. You probably wouldn't think twice about being alone at night in a big city and I would be freaking out. Or trying to find my way around a city in traffic?!!?! No way! I'll take empty, dusty roads and whatever animals that go bump in the night anytime!

Welcome to TW! And thank you! Wyoming has its gems - Yelly, Tetons and the Bighorns (my most recent discovery) to name a few. I think these areas are just amazing because there doesn't seem to be a bad time to visit or a bad picture to be taken.

And Weesa came about because of my friends' little guy. He wasn't so good with "L's" when he was a baby so I became Weesa. Then my friends started calling me that too. Then someone here on TW started calling me Weesa too without knowing that whole story and I thought maybe I should just make it a permanent change!
