Good Stuff, thanks for being an advocate for the park.. I worked in YNP as a backcountry ranger for several years, a few years working with the Fire and Interpretive departments in the park .. I spent nearly every summer growing up in the park. I told my parents that I was going to be a ranger in YNP when I was 5.. It only took 20 years but I achieved that goal.

I bet you have lots of interesting stories from your time there

I love the park and its 99% of the reason I live here in Bozeman - just close enough to call it my backyard. I try to set a good example for those that are visiting, just so infuriating sometimes seeing all of the stupid things people try to do down there

After my wife decided she was done with living like "savages" in the park. We moved to Bozeman as a compromise. I still make it down there every few weeks. Fortunately, I still have friends who live in YNP and can stay with them.

Theyve been making steady progress it seems, they are in some of the higher drifted areas and higher avalanche danger areas now so it can be slow going. Plus the plowing is only part of the job - they have to reinstall all of the guardrailing once the snow and rocks are cleared from the road itself. They remove it each fall so that it doesn't get ripped out by avalanches, you can see the square bases that hold the railing in here

And you can just make out the roof of the visitor center at logan pass - thats a good sign. i'm sure there have been years where the building is completely covered...

Generally the weather has been decent around here - 60's and 70' most of the week.

Do that! They have a whole album every year of the plowing activity. There's usually a day or two delay in what they post but you can see first hand what they're up against.

I've always been impressed by the effort the NPS puts into plowing/maintaining these high pass roads. Just look at the machines they need for the job.

It's a big job for sure. But look at how much money the parks bring to the local economy. More than worth it.
A couple years ago there was some trouble with the Beartooth Highway just outside of Yellowstone. It lies mainly on forest service land. Part in WY and part in MT. FS budget cuts took some money away, neither state wanted to step up and cover the deficit. Some solution was finally worked out, can't remember what it was though.

Shit. I don't even know where to start. We just decided to do this so I really need to do some homework, and quick. We will drive up and spend about 5 days there.
