just got back from a moose hunting trip in the Tetons....saw a total of 8. 1 new boy, 1 that I'm pretty sure I saw last year, 2/3 of my "moose-keteers" and 2 mommas each with a 1 y/o calf.
One of the bulls was eating some grasses in this marshy area. Way off the beaten path, no one around and dead silent....all except for him slurping and snorting in the water  He was making so much noise...
My moose-keteers were a little hard to find until a couple of people walked down into their hiding place. Its on an island in the middle of the river, high water right now so the main channel is nasty. I couldn't get the people's attention to tell them to stop....doubt they knew there were FOUR moose hiding in about a 5 acre space. The two boys decided to make a quick retreat and they crossed the river. It was a bit of a struggle even for them. The momma and baby hanging out stayed hidden and I don't think the people ever got to that end of the island. I'm glad they didn't spook as I don't know if the baby could have crossed the river...if the current can sweep a full grown bull down stream 10 yards then the calf would have had a hell of a time crossing.
And the other momma and baby that I saw were down in a marshy area, I was up above watching from the top of the hill about 30' up. There was a couple of rude pushy "pro" photographers there too. They pushed me aside when the two moose started to make there way further south away from our vantage point. The pros were out of view when mom did a 180, looked up the hill at me and started making her way up. I screamed "moose coming up!" and made a mad dash out of the brush and back to the main trail. There were a few other folks there and I told them to stay back and she'd come into view eventually. Well sure enough here comes the two of them charging up the hill, breaking branches and causing a few minor landslides as they went. They came right to the trail, grazed a little and moved on. I kept everyone back at a safe distance and the moose didn't seem to care that we were there. They headed across the trail into the trees and then popped out again in the open....got lots of shots of the two of them.
And the two pros were no where to be seen, still down the trail waiting for the moose to show up I suppose... I may not have the best equipment but at least I have the instinct!

Love to see da moose in the wild, you go girl. Funny story, years ago I was on a backpacking trip at Isle Royal. We set up camp at the end of a long day, started a fire and chow, a few drinks. Three hours latter we try to go to bed in the tent, but a cow stood up from behind our tent and wasn't having any of that. So we go back to where the fire was, she laid back down, now what? Long story short, it took pots and pans banging together to get her and her two calfs to leave. I should not have done that but we started to get real tired and it was now 2am. In the morning we saw a ranger and told him the story, he said we did the right thing, and were lucky we did not get charged at. That was almost forty years ago, so I suppose things have changed .

Hey Weesa, I'm having such a hard time even beginning to figure out where to camp when I'm at Yellowstone. I think we will spend the night of the 28th at a hotel or something in Jackson but then getting up early to find a place, I don't know where to start looking. Prefer something a little more dispersed. Ideas?

I see the park of the future with elevated roadways with a contraption like a car wash has where your vehicle gets drug along....no traffic jams then! And the boardwalks will have plexiglass walls/ceilings so people can't wander off

    I wish they would!
