Its like a giant booger...so it suits you
Some do. Most days the steam clouds are so thick you can't see much at all. On sunny days, like last weekend, you can see each and every little steam vent on the horizon.
In general, the thermal areas are free of snow, the ground and water are so warm that the snow melts. Most of the rivers in the park don't freeze either. Since there's more water around some of the features change - like the mud in the fountain paint pots. in the summer the mud is the consistency of...well, house paint and this time of year its a much more soupy consistency.
The bacteria and algae that grow in the water change in the winter too. Less sunlight means less photosynthesis takes place. The water and air temps are lower and that affects the bacteria/algae means that different types florish and different types will go dormant for the season. Visually that means that the colors in the pools change - one area might be bright green in the hot summer will change to a rusty red/orange in the cool winter.

Sorry for going off on a tangent there...

Yellowstone Seeks Information on Illegal Bison Shootings

Yellowstone National Park is asking for the public’s help in identifying who was responsible for illegally shooting and killing three bison inside the park last week.

Park rangers determined the bison were likely shot between the evening of March 13 and morning of March15 alongside the road in the Blacktail Plateau area of northern Yellowstone.
A reward of up to $5,000 is offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) responsible for the crime. Anyone with information is requested to call the Yellowstone National Park Tip Line at 307-344-2132.
The Lacey Act and the Code of Federal Regulations strictly prohibit the killing or removal of any animal from inside Yellowstone. This includes animals shot legally outside the park that cross into and die within the park boundary. Taking and removing any animal parts, including shed antlers, is also prohibited.
Violators are investigated and aggressively prosecuted, and are subject to penalties including fines, restitution, and the forfeiture of vehicles, equipment and personal property associated with the violations.

Dammit! This kind of thing pisses me off to NO END! Scumbags that do heinous acts like that make life difficult for all true sportsman/hunters who play by the rules and work to preserve resources for future generations.

Hope they catch the perpertrators and throw the book at them.

Three weeks from today I will be waking up in my RTT in Mammoth campground :yay: Hopefully I won't have to dodge a couple dozen elk on the way to the little girls' room like I did last year.

I saw where Mammoth woke up to a 4.8 mag earthquake and several inches of fresh snow this morning! Hope it warms up for you by then.
I'm sick of winter and would love to get out on the bike without having to put on layers of clothes.
