Bringing this one back to life.

Anyone have any good truck fort camping areas in Teton? Or, which sites is it allowed in? First camping trip as a Utah resident will be north in the summertime. I’ll go south in the fall/winter.

    Thanks

you mean just dispersed camping? or campground camping? most of the campgrounds are reservation only this year and the sites have booked up fast but you might get lucky. and dispersed camping outside of the park is super crowded - like people parking a 30' 5th with pop outs on a blind corner, single lane road overnight because all of the campsites were taken.
Toppings is a popular area - directly across from the Cunningham Cabin Historic site. Used to be a nice place, one of my favorite places to camp. Too much of a shit show now.

Or Granite Creek about 45 minutes south of Jackson. Haven't been up here since a fire came through a few years ago

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, I’d rather not be in a campground, I’m in a Tacoma w/ a RRT. I’m used to just finding a BLM road that ends in a canyon and just setting up shop.

    Yellowstone fun fact:
Today marks the 33rd anniversary of the lightning caused Storm Creek fire. The 1st of several fires that would eventually burn a combined total of almost 800k acres in the park during the summer of 1988.

It was scary at the time and it changed how the park has looked ever since but in the long run, yes, it was a good thing. HUGE wake up call for the NPS and FS and BLM in how fires were managed up to that point. Changed a lot of things for the better and not just in the park.

Fire is a natural part of a healthy ecosystem. Fuel load buildup from years of fire suppression are the major cause of today's big fires.
The longer fire is excluded from an ecosystem the bigger the eventual fire will be; the fire paradox.

yep. that was the major problem - prior to 88 the general thinking was to put out a fire as soon as possible. Yellowstone was long overdue to have a good burn. now they only fight the fires in infrastructure is in danger and wilderness fires are left to burn so there isn't a repeat of 88.

I agree. The fires that year has changed a lot of things but most are for the better!
