No, I'm not so much of an idiot that I don't know how to take off the mudflaps. My question is there anyone here that has taken them off and kept them off for an extended amount of time? My friend warned me against removing them, even though I love the look, because he said debris would ruin the paint job usually being protected by the mudflaps. I don't plan on offroading any time soon, so where's the danger? Expertise needed.

I don't have mine on my tundra. You can get rock chips and scratches from throwing mud and debris. You can also purchase a clear film to place over the fenders (3M makes one) if you wish to protect the paint. Keep in mind the film is NO guarantee against chips and scratches either.

Ok. I'm going to file that one in the "Don't do" side.:)
    Any other opinions/reviews?

I trimmed a few inches off my fronts. Looks much better, free, easy to do, and no rock chips yet :)

I'm having a shop custom cut and apply the thick 3m clear vinyl. I have them quoting me roughly $50 to cut/apply all 4 corners. I'd rather have that than the flaps........and I don't go wheelin all that often to get bad chips and such.

Took mine off 2 days after I bought the truck. I like the clean look without the flaps. All the domestic trucks I've owned over the last 10-15 years didn't have flaps. Sure you're going to get a nick occassionally but hey, it's a truck.

I took mine off and have had no problems with chips. I live on a gravel road.

The mud flaps hung on underbrush and were destined for destruction anyway. I have sliders and they keep the big stuff off of the skin.

First thing I did after bringing my truck home from the dealership was to remove the mudflaps. They're way to damn big. I've never had mudflaps on any vehicle longer than it took to drive home from the dealership and, knock on wood, have not had any serious road damage. Take 'em off.

I have no ill effects from mud flap removal. I took them off two years ago (btw, you can do pretty well selling them on Ebay; mine went for $150). I, however, do not off road.

Guys, you have come through beautifully. This kind of feedback is exactly why I am here. Thank you, and consider them off, woo-hoo!

Nice thing was I got the truck for $4000
If you take them off, I reccomend adding some herculiner to your rocker panals, this will save them in the long run

Just too mine off last weekend... Quick & easy.. Just be carefull with the clips. I only broke 1 clip out of the 4 mud flaps.... Oh and do it ASAP if you're ever going to do it.. The mud flaps will scratch your paint where they are mounted. They left some on mine.. Oh well. Looks way better without the flaps, and WAY more clearence. Those mud flaps made me feel like i had a lowered truck when going over obstacles.
