I agree. For a cheap flap they have a lot of fun options.

Yeah with these trucks the best thing to do is to drive them for at least a few weeks without changing anything just to see

At least the 3rd gen mud flaps aren't 2 inches from the ground. The 2nd gens were awful. Every time you went over a speed bump, they would scrape. I took off the front ones on my 2nd gen cause of this.

    :hattip:

I'm just running the rears currently, but they are pretty stout. It's been on quite a few trips through all weather, most recently a week spent in the backcountry around Big Bend.

The real test is the drive through car wash - theyve been through several. :anonymous::anonymous::anonymous: Not even a loose mounting screw.

I use the OEM ones when general driving, and replace with cheap ones I don't care about if they break off, or get destroyed when off road. They are a safety, courtesy, and paint and body saving addition for yourself and others. It's not that much of a pain to switch out each time.

I’m a boring function over form guy in most cases, so I keep the flaps. My truck came with 265/70/17s on Semas, and barely rubbed every now and then so I ditched the flaps briefly. Swapped to 265/65 and the rub potential was gone so I put them back on. I don’t think they hurt the look too bad, and they definitely get caked full of mud that would have otherwise been on my paint, so I will be keeping them along with the smaller tires.

Practical: helps keep the road dirt off the body of the truck and helps control the damned shiny crap car washers like to spray on your tires when you don't have time to stop and wipe that crap off. Try to avoid automatic car washers but sometimes you just can't. Now, if I were into serious off-roading, I'd remove them before the terrain decided to do it for me. Don't want to tear up the truck having the ground remove the mud flaps.

Trimmed oem ones about three inches. Looks clean, still functions, doesn’t catch on everything or pack with snow.
