I had my truck off roading a month after I got it while harvesting some creek rock. The fronts were catching on all kind of stuff from uneven ground to stumps. I finally got around to making a change and trimmed 5 inches off the front yesterday. Aside from the practicality, I think it improves the looks too.

my fronts fell off and i must say, they hold lots of shit back, without them, tons of dirt and road rocks, must be small pebbles, but at highway speeds and road driving, leaving little marks, need to get replacements and at least trim them down. something needs to bethere, without them, its murder to the side

Took mine off today, well one was half off from going over some hard snow. Looks good with them off and lift and tires are going on anyway.

I have two sets both are different sizes, one set was off my base 2008 4x4 the shorter one and the other pair off my TRD Off road and they are longer......in any case they are both off, like the look of them off better.

I didn't like the originals. Too big and subject to cracking from what I have read. And that "4x4" crap.

I bought some aftermarket and they worked out well. They were cheap, but that wasn't the primary reason for buying them.

Simple design, flexible and not too big.

Here's the link of my post from earlier in the week if anyone hasn't seen it, and you are interested in this alternative.

Any pictures or comparisons of how much the difference in the rock chips on the body are with factory length and with the trimmed? I'm trying to figure out by angles from the bottom of the wheel to the mudflap, but I'm not sure how accurate that is.

And check out my sig for a write up on fixing mudflaps for people with mudflaps falling off!:D

I tried to figure that, too. I actually had 3M film applied to the areas behind the wheels for protection once I pulled the OEMs.

But as NoDrAmA357HK mentioned, I didn't want to spray everyone behind me with debris.

I think the smaller flaps (9x15) will offer some protection and they definitely look better. Appearance wise, less is more.

Yeah me too. they do protect the paint from sandblasting. 3M film is fine until IT gets crappy then it looks pretty bad as well. Rather deal will paint chips touch ups now and then than damaged film.

Took the fronts off my Tacoma when I had it because they looked dumb once they were up in the air when the truck was leveled. I think the rears with "4X4" printed on them are pretty bad ass and would have left those on as long as possible if I hadn't gotten rid of the truck. My FJ has such short mud flaps I hardly even know they are there.

Trimmed 4" off the fronts as soon as I got home with the new truck. Now they're the same distance off the ground as the backs.
