Took mine off 2 days after buying the truck, I hated the way they looked. Also that black plastic always fades and starts to look real crappy real qiuck. I don't mind greasing the tires to make them look nice, but I'm not going to wast my tire shine on some flaps. That craps expensive!

    Just my 2 cents

Both my rears broke off, then I removed the fronts. Some paint damage will occur from rocks on the rocker panels, but its a 4x4 pickup so I could care less.

Besides, anyone else feel like their paint job sucked from the factory?? I have a BSP tacoma and that paint scratches SO easily. A blade of grass will leave a mark it seems. So, I guess thats another reason not to care about rock chips....when it comes time I might get it repainted....key word, MIGHT.

i have a lot of a clear ceramic almost like a plastic wrap, high grade and 3 sheets seem to hold off any rock dents or scratches. for everyday on road there is no issues its only when i go to the sand do i put on the wraps.

Interesting , where I live we have a lot of gravel roads , so I'm pretty hesitent about losing the front flaps .

i put on aftermarket mudflaps there wider. with my lift and tires they rubbed big time in the front so i took thin steel cable off my race snowmobile snow flap and bent my tailflaps back an hold it with the cable. works great and cant tell theres cable there.

I cut mine down by 3.5 inches using a pair of tin snips (thanks cheap mods section) It took about 10 minutes including rounding the corners off and sanding the edges smooth. Now they are pretty much even with the rears. Not sure why they were so long to begin with.

Terrible design/ material for mud flaps... The '01 was fine (rubber)... but the '05 (hard plastic) finally broke off for the last time from mud (the weight of mud on the flaps, ripped them off)... previous times they snapped off just doing regular four wheeling... dropping into ruts, the tires would pinch/ pull them off... many times, but I kept putting them back on.

On my '10, the first time I did some serious four wheeling the back one pulled off when I drove into a rut. That was it... they are all off since then!

Because the mud flaps are the only thing Toyota has with 4X4 or 4WD showing on the Tacoma (why do Tundras get a 4WD badge, but not Tacomas?), I found a 4X4 badge that snaps onto the trailer hitch receiver. LOL

Gotta say I totally agree. I have been contemplating whether or not to remove them, ever since I put my 33's on the truck. I kept them on and just trimmed the fronts.

I have thought about taking mine off...i don't off-road, and drive primarily on clean roads. Question: What have y'all done with the holes and paint mismatch that are left when you pull the OEM flaps off?

I don't have an issue with paint mismatch, cause I pulled the flaps off when the truck was fairly new. As far as the holes, I put the screws and plugs back in. For the plugs, I used a washer behind the wheelwell lip to make up for the gap where the mudflap material would be. Keeps the plugs from vibrating around.

Just picked up the truck yesterday... but the first thing I noticed was how long those damn things look! Planning to shorten them a bit.

I would take mine off, but they have rubbed the paint off where they touch the truck. I doubt that I would have much luck filling in the rub marks.

Can't really see what's going on in that shadowed picture. Got any more pics of just the flaps and their mounting?
