Left mine on....and totally stock. I like the OEM's because they're long and prevent crap from spraying my rockers/undercarriage.

Now see.... I can feel your pain there. That is a fucking issue. I deal with shit like that everyday. Stressful as shit huh?

Like earlier today I saw a weed (yes a fucking weed) growing in the middle of my yard. WTF?? I had to walk all the way out there and pull it up. I'm done for the rest of the day. Looks like its video games for me the rest of the day!

    People just don't understand.

I took all of my mine off yesterday. Rained today and I felt like everyone behind me was changing lanes cause of all the water I was throwing back without the flaps. While I see plenty of other trucks on the road without flaps and don't notice any out of the norm back spray and traffic staying behind them at a reasonable distance, I can't help but feel I'm now a huge hazard or just paranoid since they just came off. Driving slow was not a factor in people changing lanes behind me lol

I would hate them also if they were all different lengths!!
Is that a feature on the 2011 trucks?

    http://monarchrifle.com/dougs_tacoma.html

I bought some Kydex sheets for a gun project but since then found some Magpul products to do the job.

Anyone tried using Kydex material for a truck project?

They aren't all different lengths. I just mixed them up. The front 2 are the same length and the back 2 are the same length.

    Need suggestions
Do they sell front mud flaps at mainstream auto parts stores? Are they cheap. My 2.7 4x4 didnt come with flaps on the front for some reason.

I love the stock mud flaps. I would have bought them if they weren't already
on the truck. They do EXACTLY what they were intended to do.

I bought some generic ones from advance auto this weekend. It was $30 for all four. They are roughly half of the length of the stock ones, but they are made out of fiberglass reinforced rubber. I had the same issue with the stock ones; they were not flexible, and could catch on things off road, or even on curbs. These are easy to flex with the hand, but stiffer than normal rubber, and don't flap around. The only real issue was that the new ones came with cheap mounting hardware. I bought some stainless bolts, washer, and lock nuts, and used the factory mounting holes in the fender. All in all, I am pretty happy with them, even if I did manage to mount one of the four slightly crooked. I will post some pics after the rain clears. They also have a picture of a little mountain on the bottom of all of them, so you know they are super rugged.

Here are the generic ones I picked up for $30, and the stainless hardware I used to mount them. They don't keep all the dirt off the truck, but keep all of the bigger, heavier stuff off (the "smaller" spray tends to start showing up behind the front wheels around the B Pillar, some of the stuff on the side was from the rain before I installed them). They do stop rocks. I did a test down a gravel road at about 25 mph today for a few miles, and no rock dings whatsoever. All in all, pretty good for the cost.

Good point. To clarify, I wasn't worried so much about keeping the truck clean, but rather keeping the rocks from hitting. With the new ATs I put on, gravel has tended to get stuck in the treads, and eventually come out high velocity, high angle, and hit right behind the wheel wells. The first 6-8 inches behind the wheel wells is where I have started to get rock chips; nothing further down the truck. For better protection, or for cleanliness, you definitely want full length. It's a little hard to see, but mine come down a few inches past the axle. They fixed the specific problem I was having, but probably not the best length for anyone that wants full protection from daily driving, snow/salt, etc.

I was fortunate to purchase a custom set from a member here (who apparently is no longer making them). I would not run in the winters here in Illinois without them. recently removed them for summer/fall. the key is to find a decent material which will withstand cold and particularly the heat from the exhaust, then make an accurate template of the inner wheelwells where the oem flaps were, use longer stainless fasteners, and they'll hold. very much needed for black tacos in particular

Mine are shortened and I applied some clear film on the fender flare to protect it from wearing into plastic. I do remove them when I wheel it.

Cut 3 in. Off the front flaps, they are even with the back ones now.
