There are also alot of people who use their truck as a truck and those giant plastic abominations get ripped off instantly once you leave the mall parking lot.

FYI...in case you (like me) broke the plastic retainer clips off when removing the mudguards, the part number is 90467-07188 for new ones. I know some say you can buy these at Lowe's/HD/Autozone, but I was unable to locate any. I went to my dealership and they only had 5 of the retainers. I needed all 12 because all of them broke when removing my mudguards. Instead of buying the 5 at the dealership, and then having to locate another 7, I asked for the part number. He refused and said they weren't allowed to give out part numbers. He did offer to sell me what he had and I could then get the part number off the package. I refused, said I'd shop somewhere else for them. He relented and wrote down the part number for me. I went home and googled the part number and found a package of 15 of them for about $9 with free shipping. Dealer wanted over $2/each.

I finally got a new (to me) set of mud flaps installed (thanks Mandy3206!!!)

Old Rear Mud Flap (lost one to a snowbank - it'll turn up in the Spring):

Old Front Passenger Mud Flap (not quite sitting right):

    Broken Front Passenger Mud Flap:

New Rear Mud Flaps (4x4 logo looks much better):

New Front Mud Flap (the new front ones are the short variant, about 2" shorter than what I had - very nice!):

I spent $8.88 on new clips from the dealership (about half of the old ones were broken when I forcibly removed the flaps in a pile of mulch, and most of the rest broke just removing them from the truck).

BTW, side note, I just put the Cooper tires on this Fall (Discovery AT3), and they are phenomenal in the snow and loose dirt. Haven't gotten into the mud much with them yet, but I'm sure they'll do better than the crappy set of tires I had on it (from the dealer).

    Thanks Keelo!
I needed them in hand right away and the dealership only charged me $1.18 each (plus tax), but I'll probably order more using that part number for the next time I need clips.

My front mud flaps were ripped off by my buddy's dogs when my truck sat in his back yard. They decided to chew them up. Back ones are still there, though.

I just recently bought a used 2012 doublecab trd sport and it came with 285/65 nitto trail grapplers. Noticed a lot of rock chips in the paint due to the previous owner taking off the mudflaps. Was looking into getting some husky or weathertech flaps to replace them. Any suggestions on a brand preference, and what are my chance of having them rub the tires. Sorry to sound like such a rookie, but this is my first toyota. Thanks.

You don't give us a lot to go on. What's the diameter on those wheels? Are you lifted or not? And wheel backspacing/offset plays into it as well. Not to mention how you use your truck - "your mileage may vary."

A 285/65R16 tire is basically just wider. If you're lifted at all, you may be able to put the flaps back on if you're running on the street.

A 285/65R17 tire is larger - nearly 32" But might be able to run with mudflaps for street and gravel road usage if lifted.

A 285/65R18 tire is nearly 33" Your truck is probably already lifted. You're unlikely to be able to put the flaps back on without encountering rubbing issues at full lock and/or when backing even on the street.

These are all approximate answers - depends on the backspacing of your wheels, the exact size of the tires, the lift involved, etc...

Ive got 265/65r 17 stock on my trd sport dclb. the first time I tried to jump a curb both fronts got torn off. the back flaps were ok. I measured the height of the back flaps, transferred to the front and cut them down to fit. Not a problem since.

Well i bougt it used from the dealership so im not sure exactly the wheel offset and the exact imches of the lift. Sorry i should have said they are 285\65\18 tires. Im not doing any offroading or anything, just street driving and driving on the beach every now and then. Hopefully the pics will help to see how it currently looks.

Thanks for the input, very helpful...they are 285/65/18....im afraid i may not have enough of a gap between my tire and the fender even though i havent experienced any rubbing so far. I posted a few pics further up (hope it helps) of what im working with.

I would not recommend putting flaps on the front as they will almost definitely rub at full lock (great way to damage/forcibly remove them). However, you should be good to put flaps on the back (yeah, probably not what your looking for).

If you're looking for additional rocker protection, a set of side steps/running boards would help. I have the Toyota running boards on my truck, but similar styles are available in the aftermarket arena.

I'm betting against it, but ultimately one experiment is worth a hundred "helpful" posts on TW. Just don't spend too much getting the flaps that you first try it with - get some junkers and if it works out, then get a set worth keeping.

    Some stuff...
Took a shortcut today that included a little bit of mud, and scraped the front flaps - those bishes are coming off & getting trimmed this weekend!
