They really only seem to be a problem if say I back up over a snow bank it bends them pretty badly to the point where I thought they would either snap off or break.

That sucks man. I didn't know any state was that strict. Here in Cali all the lifted tacos I see have their flaps off. I've never had any cops bust me for that and they've had plenty of chances (As much as I get stopped:mad:).

Stock at the moment (she's at the dealer getting the rear leaf TSB), but trimming them is on the short list when she gets back. Probably going to go at 3000 miles with the rest of the "early" mod list.

I opted to replace them with something cheaper and keep the factory parts so I can return it to stock condition in the unlikely event that I ever decide to sell the truck.

when i lift mine and put on bigger tires i will prob only remove my front flaps... i think AZ has a law something like from the center of the tire and up has to be covered by either bodywork or flap... and i think even the stock trd package truck would violate that if the rear were removed. i think it has something to do with trying to reducing stone chips... the car i had before i got my taco got hammered! before i sold it i spent about an hour with a bottle of touch-up paint trying to fix all the stone chips on the bumper and hood.

Couldn't wait and finished trimming mine up tonight.

They look MUCH better. Trimmed the rears first, to the level where the bottom of the mudflap is even with the bottom of my TRD exhaust tip. I figure if the exhaust is dragging, I have bigger problems to worry about than my mudflaps snapping off. Then went and did the fronts with the same template.

Makes the truck look like it stands taller, and combined with the slightly raised ass end from the TSB it looks more aggressive. Much improved.

I have removed mine, but a guy here did some cutting in the supports and now they are very very flexible, so no danger of breaking. I think it's a better idea than shortening them or removing them
