I took my truck to Midas for a quote on a muffler and tailpipe. And..... wait for it..... $422.09 That is ridiculous and not worth it at all. I will most likely do it myself. Where can I get prebent tailpipe or how do I bend it? Also opinions on mufflers (4cyl). I heard a sound clip of a flowmaster that sounded really really nice but it also had a high flow cat. Would it still sound good with a stock cat. My other option is magnaflow which I don't like the sound of as much but from what I can tell sounds better as a bolt on without headers or a cat.

    Thanks
    Liam

i hope that is for stainless at least and install... I got a gibson cat back and it sounds good not to loud but i got v6 not a 4 banger.... I think it should be fine with your stock cat. A mom and pop muffler shop should do you better

I just run what ever Walker Exhaust parts my truck calls for.

Easy to find fits good with the rest of the system

The liquid brine keeps me under the truck all the time.

I out grew out of all the fancy aftermarket exhaust exhaust years ago.

I paid under $300 for a Flowmaster muffler and new exhaust pipes out to stainless tips, dual exhaust on my GM.

    $425 is a rip off.

I got my SS AFE cat back from Amazon for $350~. Simple bolt on, just needed a gasket for between the cat and the new exhaust. $3 locally.

You can get a cat back for that price I think. Bolt on. I could see if it was a custom exhaust system for that price. But for a stockish replacement yeah a bit much. But I paid $550 for my whole custom, mandrel bent, bed exit system installed from manifold back. that was just install. Muffler resonator and cat I provided for $300. That was from a high performance shop too. I thought I was getting ripped off. But sounds about right for mine. But not for what you want.

I just had my muffler and pipe replaced from the cat back for $145. I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself unless you are willing to cut, stretch and weld due to years of heat and rust. I would look for a local shop and try to avoid large overhead entities like Midas.

    Pretty much stock right now

Maybe it's just me, but I don't find doing the cat back replacement at all difficult. The walker system sounds ok to me, and it's stainless (not the shiny type). I've used it on two of my Tacomas. I bought the parts at advance auto.

For what it is worth I just cut the old clamps off as well as the bolts holding the flange together

Using a 4 1/2" grinder with zip disc.

New bolts new gasket a few new rubber hangers .

    Done

Because it is stock replacement it just bolts together no cutting or welding of pipes

I put a walker rear exhaust system on my Jeep last year, seems to be doing fine, and reasonably priced.

Are there any cat backs that sound good on a 4 cylinder? I also found out I am going to need a new catalytic converter too. Any suggestions for which cat to get?
