Just had the at 2525 installed yesterday and I've gotta say it's the best muffler I've had. I had a flowmaster 40 and a 14 inch magnaflow oval muffler on my first gen (4 cyl) and I've had a 13 inch wicked flow max, wicked flow kamikaze, and magnapack on my 4.0l in that order, and this is the best. Idle sounds the best far and away, and although it's not quite as loud as the maganpack or kamikaze (prob get louder after broken in), it has absolutely no drone which those two had plenty of, especially in low rpms

The aero turbine sound is the deepest one yet and very smooth with no hissing or "chatter" which I feel the magnapack and kamikaze had. Ive also noticed a slight power increase with the aero compared to the magnapack, and consequently saw a gain when I changed from the kamikaze to the magnapack. So more or less the kamikaze made me lose power and mpg that was clearly visible after switching from the standard wicked flow max muffler due to the kamikaze's extreme openness. Furthermore the wicked flow max did net me an extra mpg compared to the magnapack but with the same performance, just a very mellow and boring sound. Obviously the mileage gains or loses of the aero turbine can't be determined yet, but the ears and butt dyno approve.

I'd rank them like this in overall regards to sound, performance, and mpg.
    1. Aero 2525
    2. 14x4 magnapack
    3. Wicked flow max
    4. Wicked flow kamikaze

I can make a sound clip perhaps later this week, and I got it from a member on here that never installed it. You can find them new on amazon or eBay

Another vote for the aero turbine. Just installed the resonated 2525xl on my v6 and love it. Definently sounds the deepest of all clips I heard. Got it for 100 bucks off eBay and installed for 40. Couldn't be happier.

good for you man. After i put in longtubes, mine got major raspy and was annoying as hell, so i welded in a 12" resonator and all is good! Even deeper than it was and still loud but no rasp

OP do I understand you correctly (and please others fill me in and give your info) the wicked flow max gave you more MPG and had the mellowist sound? I have a 4.0 and am adding the URD true CAI. I obviously need to open up the exhaust to get the real benefit of efficiency, but I am not interested in hearing my own exhaust. No offense, I just have been there done that and when I'm on the freeway I don't want to hear it. So I am looking for a good matched flow, increase in performance or power is not the biggest concern (although I will not go with flowmaster or anything that robs power) increasing mileage is number one and quite sound is number two. any ideas?:notsure:

I did see better mileage with the wicked flow max, but I also had an afe drop in filter that prob helped some. The wicked flow is a very mellow tone, but honestly sounds like garbage, it droned like crazy on the high way and was like a horn blowing lol. Not to knock bear river cuz they are a great company with great customer service, but I didn't like it. Of course I had the 13", so the 18" would be quieter.

If your wanting that style of muffler with little noise, I'd just go with a 18-26" Magnaflow with 2.25 inlet out. I think its offset inlet center outlet to get it to fit in with the stock piping exactly. The magnaflow will open things up, will be quiet, and won't drone. Their the same thing as wicked flow, just sound better

copy that on the flow max. I have had several magnaflows in the past and been happy.
I have another follow question for you and others following. what is the benefit or differences in the length (you mention 18-26", that's a big range) is the difference only in sound or flow/mileage/performance? and secondly what is the stock size exhaust pipe on these 4.0's non TRD and is it a much better idea to increase the size and replace cat back? thats what I've always done on V8's and Diesels. ???
    thanks for the info

longer the muffler the quieter it will be is a general rule of thumb. If you want to go with a full catback, then thats totally up to you. However, many catbacks out there for the taco have some 3 in piping, which without a blower or a full setup of Headers, EMS, tune etc., will likely lose you some low end power. Also most of those catback systems have smaller (14-18") mufflers that will prob be too loud for your liking.

Stock piping size on every taco is 2.25". The stock piping is also mandrel bent, and the cats are high flow so the only real restrictions currently are the shitty manifolds, crimp in the y-pipe, and the stock muffler. You can gain a little more power by running 2.5" piping (trd catback size), but if your just going with a muffler there's no point since they will just weld in a small section and it will end up costing more.

My recommendation to you is to go with a magnaflow with 2.25" in/out that is on the longer side to tame down noise and drone. This should work http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MPE-12255/

Also check out dynomax, they are pretty tame and have been proven on our trucks to add about 8 whp. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WLK-17731/

Thanks a lot thats very helpful. I will check out the dynomax but with a happy history with magnaflow thats probably the route Ill take.
I'm thinking a 2.25 in and 2.5" out if they make it. not a huge difference but I want a black or black powder coated tip also (I don't think I've ever seen that on a taco) so I can just change the muffler back and get a little custom look and something different. what do ya think?
    thanks again for the info

Ive got the 18" wicked flow. At low speeds and low rpm I can barely hear it. Not till I put my foot into do you actually hear it.

    Exactly what I wanted
