I'm new to the forums, but Taco505 pointed me in this direction. Sounds like an awesome trip! Too bad my stock 4x4 Taco sounds a little light for it. I guess I'll just check the thread and live vicariously through you guys.

Ha! That's what I'm trying to avoid, more than anything. Just got done with a 6 year stint in the Air Force and I'm happily unemployed living off of savings at the moment. Last thing I need is a repair bill. Oh well, maybe I can start doing some stuff when money isn't such an issue. Thanks for the warm welcome.

Welcome to the site, and you will find the money to spend on your truck.

I just won $1K today, time to knock out some items on the shopping list. First to go, some custom sliders!

I am still really wanting to go. Gotta talk to my dad about his wedding and then see what will be going on with my internship.

Sorry to hear that and thanks for letting me know.

Make it happen and keep me posted.

What I did was insane. In retrospect, I was probably a little too heavy on the skinny pedal too. Smoother acceleration probably would have gotten me up it just fine. You do not have to do that severe of stuff if you don't wish. On the other side of the tree was a bypass that was only like a foot and a half tall ledge. All of the stuff Graham will take you on has bailouts. Think with logic, not ego and you'll be just fine.

It looks like you're installing a wrap around bumper. I'm excited to see it. That's what I plan to make in the fall. I'm going to tie the front of the wrap arounds back into the frame. It will be kinda like little sliders that feed into the bumper.

Yeah man, don't ever apologize for wearing eye protection. Especially when you're grinding and cutting. Certain shit just needs to be taken seriously.

Ok guys, any updates on status? I still have an awful lot of maybe's.

We're getting closer and I want to get a good sized, but not huge, group.

Though I regret to say I think I will have to be marked as out as of now :(. My dad wants me to help out at his wedding and I'm not gonna say no. Ill keep talkin to him and see just exactly what I have to do and if I can swing it I still wanna go for sure but if its down to counting numbers Ill open up a space until I am for sure on. Ill keep an eye on the thread though for sure too.

I don't mind keeping you as a maybe. Just keep me posted on what final plans you come up with. You're at least making an effort and letting us know. There are just a few guys that said "hell ya" and then I pretty much never heard from them again.

I am still in on this trip, and real excited. Getting some sliders made right now, and shopping around for some extras. I won some money, and now time to spend it.

You can still count on me too. I'll have my 6" lift installed next week and I've got 33" MTs now so I'm still down with the nasty :D

The week after, the wife and I plan to hit Blanca Peak in southern CO. There is a pretty intense 4wd trail that takes you almost to the top. Then it's just a 4 mi hike to the summit.

I've been there before in my friends XJ, but didn't make the summit because we started WAY too late in the day. Can't wait to take another crack at it with the Toyota.

I am all in... I think I have a plan to make it for the whole trip. I have to keep all my annual leave available to donate to my fiancee, and she is 27 weeks pregnant, due in Sep.:D so I cant help but develop a (cough, cough) bad cold around that week in july ....Sick leave can't be shared, donated or transferred. It has to be used. by me. So methinks I will....:mudding: =]

Drew02a- I've been to Mt Blanca before, when I was about seven. we caught a ride as far up as an old ford truck would go, then hiked the rest. I remember seeing an old bronco trying to make it up a very steep scree slope before the end of the road, at a little lake....(sound familiar? this was 25 years ago....!) We did summit Blanca. (did more 14'ers in grade school then I have since...) its the sixth highest peak in the country. Not a bad climb. not too technical IIRC. There is another peak called Ellingwood that isnt too bad, to the west, or left looking up and then a very hard climb up 'Little Bear' with a technical traverse to Blanca that is actually somewhat famous. I think. I have always wanted to go back....

That's the one. The climb itself isn't too technical. I think it is a great choice since neither Christa or I have done any serious hiking in awhile.

Glad to hear you're a go. Enjoy the spending spree. Sliders are a wonderful, damn near mandatory, addition to your truck for wheeling around here.

Glad to hear you're in too. Maybe we'll end up with a cozy little group. That wouldn't be too bad of a thing. Easier camping and grouping. We'd also spend more time wheeling and less time waiting for others. I didn't now they made a 6" for the 5-luggers. Who makes it? Your little truck is going to look huge!

First off, the Regular Cab 4x4s are 6 luggers, lol. I'm doing the RCD 4-5" drop bracket then putting 6" coil overs on. Should give be a great combination of height and center clearance.

Second, we'd love to have company doing Blanca! I don't like to wheel anything that serious alone even though I've got all the gear I need for self recovery, I'd rather be safe.

We're not really the resort type. Probably will in a tent most nights on this trip. I think for Blanca we'll drive up to lake como and camp, then summit the next morning. and head back down.

When are you heading out there Drew? I know it's a few days off still, but just curious. I was thinking of taking 287 to I-40, and up to 585 maybe, I forget which one in New Mexico.

I thought about leaving early early Friday morning, 9th.

I too will be leaving on the 9th. Maybe we can hookup on our way out of Texas and caravan the rest of the way.
