    Sorry Drew. I obviously knew you had a reg cab but I also thought you had a 4 cyl. I thought all 4 cylinders were 5 lug. Obviously, I'm incorrect somewhere in that train of thought.

    The guy in the picture on post #1, where I'm holding the rope, tore that fender flare off on Mt. Blanca. He only spoke of it for a minute but it sounded nasty. I'll ask him more about it next time I see it.

    Kidcatcher, what's your name again? Come when you can. If you miss day 1, there will still be a lot left. It sounds like you can extend the trip later to Blanca if you wish too. We may even be able to find a way to get you back into Chokecherry or something else local

    It's cool man. FYI all 4x4s and Pre-Runners are 6 lug.

    Blanca definitely could be gnarly. But, when I was there last, we ran into the jeep club that maintains the trails there, and they claimed the whole thing could be run all the way to lake Como in a stock wrangler with stock tires. Since my tuck eats stock Wranglers for breakfast, we should be fine with some good spotting.

    Walmart has a Cobra for $35. I doubt it's anything special but it would probably work fine for off roading. Radio Shack would be a good place to check too.

    Nope. I updated the first post.

    I figured the cheapos would be fine. Typically in an off road situation, the radio doesn't need to reach more than a couple hundred yards or so.

    I don't have a cb yet but I plan to buy one for less than $100. I'm more concerned about size and mounting location than transmitting and receiving power.

    It's WAY more important to have your antenna set up right than to spend a bunch of money on the actual CB.

    Thats one of the main reasons I got the cheap one, size. All the expensive ones are usually bigger and I couldn't fit it where I wanted it to be. Mine reaches way more than a couple hundred yards lol, when I am out on the highway I talk to truckers that are a ways off all the time.

    Glad to hear. I doubt it will reach quite as far here. Texas is wide open and flat. I imagine the hills and mountains will break up the signal a fair amount.

    Fortunately the easiest setup will also give you the best reception: Magnetic Rooftop Antenna.

    The simple fact is that CB antennas work BEST when there mounted on a flat metal surface (ground plane). That means the roof is the absolute best place for your antenna. It may not look quite as cool as having a big re whip antenna mounted to your bumper or in the bed, but I'd rather have a working radio than a cool looking antenna any day.

    There are plenty of people who get decent results with the whip antennas though, especially when they get them tuned.
