So driving home from visiting my 85 year old mom last night. She’s doing ok, God bless her..
Anyhow I lost the display readout in the center there as well as all associated lights that light up the dash.
Truck is 2022 Tacoma SR, one year old with 11k. So yeah.. warranty…
Gateway Toyota of toms River. Accommodated me nicely with an appointment first thing Monday morning of course these things always happen on the weekend.
Not sure, I see anything on this thread that indicated what the cause was, but I suppose I’m just gonna leave it to the dealer. But it is sort of an “off and on”situation. By this I mean that the readout comes back on when you press the brakes, curiously enough. Other error messages come as well, probably because it is rebooting. I have heard in the past that sometimes a short in the ground can cause weird stuff like this to happen. Any thoughts out there?

I never had it happen again (knock on wood) but that being said the dealer never found anything wrong and claimed they never heard of it before I took. Picture and should them this post. But since they couldn’t replicate the problem they couldn’t replace the module, and it seems that if you turn the truck off and restart it fixes itself so good luck!

Ok, so I just wanted to do a follow up on the resolution to my display problem. As I suspected, It was a power issue. I was suspecting a faulty ground. However, the true issue was that it needed a new alternator. The dealer says it’s extremely rare, for a truck only one year old with a proximately 11,000 miles on it to have a failure in the alternator so soon. I just wanted to post of a solution because it might help somebody else.

Sucks you had to deal with this situation, good to know. I haven’t searched, but I don’t recall seeing many bad alternator posts.

OK, I'll go first. So was your battery being under-charged and perhaps damaged? What sort of voltage do you have across the battery terminals with the vehicle shut-off, and running?

Glad to hear you were able to get it resolved, weird that an alternator would cause this issue but I've seen crazier shit over the years while as a tow truck driver. Fingers crossed for you
