I don't remember disconnecting the battery when I did my vintage grill install.

It's been tested since last August and no issues--I did not put a washer on the top bolt of the TSS...the base was already angled for the garnish.

I'm brining my Honeycomb Grill to the Delaware Meet on June 24th because there was in interest in my removed OEM parts I posted to bring.

Everything I've removed/replaced I've kept...just in case I needed to put them back on.

Personally I prefer the TOYOTA look instead of the emblem. SR5 here.

From my experience when swapping to the pro grill, the garnish you use matters. I tried two different ones from Amazon, the lights / warning messages would always eventually come on. Then I bought one from tacogarage and it works great. Also, make sure the push lock nuts that hold the garnish are on tight (they can be a pain in the ass to push down all the way). I didn't have to use washers to adjust the angle, or disconnect the battery. Not sure if it matters, but I went with the OEM pro grill and aftermarket garnish.

Under the theory that you had a working system, you did some stuff, and now the system doesn't work properly, i would try the following:
    • my first suggestion is to temporarily remove the negative on the battery, wait 10min, and then reconnect the battery. If that doesn't fix things, then
    • remove the negative battery terminal again, remove the add-a-fuse for the raptor lights and leave disconnected, re-connect the battery. If that doesn't clear the problem, then I
    • might suspect the wiring harness that connects to the sensor in the grill to the connector coming from the engine bay. Looking at it, is it possible one of the conductor "fingers" has backed out of it's respective clip? lastly,
    • I do not remember if there is a short wire harness between the sensor, and the wire harness from the engine bay... If there is, you might try replacing it.

Threads like this one work to deter me from replacing my SR5 grille with a Pro take-off. My Taco is super reliable so far...and I don't have the time, money, or energy to dick around with issues.

It's a shame some members have trouble with R-square/Remove & Replace actions.

I wanted the vintage look of the Toyota Grill and was successful with install.

The appearance is a significant change!

EDIT: I have an SR5 owner who plans on buying my honeycomb grill on June 24!

I literally had my done today and it was returned from the shop with all warning lights on and them telling me they could not fix it. The above comment are all good but there is a reason I brought it to the shop, which is because I know nothing about how to install a grill and sensor. I got both of my parts from Toyota and I suppose that was my next step to go the dealership, although your story isn't very reassuring.

I have my old grill still - it' a 2019. I don't have all the tabs but it's in decent shape. PM me if you are interested.

Strange, I take mine off casually whenever I need to do something that involves the bumper and the only time I will trigger a warning is if the connection is not secure. OP, can you try reseating the connection?

I went with an ajt relocation bracket and it works fantastic
Not sure how Well it would work with the heritage grille
The old school logo is classic so I can see why so many people like it if they grew up loving Toyotas
