Well guys thanks for the reassurance. These past couple weeks I have been taking care of my grandma who just had brain surgery and I can see why people truly enjoy being nurses. There is something so rewarding when you are helping someone feel better. I know it will be a lot different in a hospital enviroment but I am glad I am sticking with nurse. Plus what other job can you go work any where you want lol. Any updates on fellow members who are pursuing healthcare careers?

Just applied to my school's nursing program. They accept 20-30 out of 300 every semester so hopefully we'll see :D

    Good luck man!

I'm in a bilingual program and we started with 52 people a year and a half ago, and now we're down to 16 people.

Technically I'm a Murse but haven't worked as a bedside RN in three years. I'm now a Nurse Practitioner actively practicing as a Pulmonology/Intensivist here in Atlanta. Prior to becoming an NP which I'm very very happy I did I was an RN in a Neuro/Surgical ICU on night shift :)

I made the switch a few years back and also am glad I did. I planned on working critical care/plum but the sweet 9-5 schedule of infectious disease lured me in

Yes, that we are. Ohh how nice 9-5 would be instead of 6-7. We do 13's days/nights/weekends/holidays. Luckily it's not 7on 7 off. If I wasn't in pulm/CCM ID WOULD be ideal.

What, no thread for the xray techs out there LOL

I've been in this field for over 5 years and I love it. Medical field is awesome and working 3 12's kicks ass......4 days off a week is a vacation. I also work graveyards and the extra pay in sick, less work, no managers and everyone gets along better IMO. As an xray tech we do a lot of extra stuff to help out the nurses, ED techs, respiratory and Dr's/Residents. LOVE this field!

Got my ADN in nursing 7 years ago and just finished my BSN earlier this summer, better late then never. Work at a level 1 trauma center in Houston, MICU for 6 years and recently transferred to Pulmonary Procedures.

First degree was Criminal Justice. Fail. I decided I wanted a career and to earn a liveable wage.

Been an RN-BSN for a year, night shifts... it pays more. First 7 months was an inpatient, major hospital in a downtown setting. It was a cardiac telemetry floor. Most patients were pretty bad off and their home med compliance was horrible, hence admission. We had a lot of everything, which helped me learn a lot, but I wasn't happy there. The place was a train wreck. We had some sick patients, but illness aside so few of them were actually normal, decent people.

I left there for a new position close to my house at a brand new stand alone Emergency Dept. It's awesome. I was stunned I got the position. Great team of coworkers to use as resources who like me are happier to be in a much better environment. I'm learning more skills and feel much more involved in patient care. The pace is slow enough to actually learn. Treat and street, so I'm not stuck with granny nightmare for 12hrs, which makes it easier to deal with the rude ones. Most of our patients, again not counting illness, are actually normal, decent people.

Is this thread alive? RN for the last 5 yrs, PCCU and now I work for ICE(immigration and customs enforcement) in the RGV. Treating all the mojo's from Mexico and South America. Makes me sick knowing they get all the medical care for free at our facility, but it beats code blues all night on the cardiac floor>:frusty:

I don't think the DNR order was written yet. Somehow we missed the entire Ebola B.S. and the activity is pretty low.

I'm an old school RT. When I first started, we were Inhalation Therapists. Anybody else go that far back?
