I think it may be an issue with the vent hose for the fuel tank filler neck. Every time I fill up with gas it takes me like 15mins because I must barely trickle the gas into the tank from the gas pump. If I try to press the gas pump handle even 1/4 the pump will kick off like it does when your gas has finished filling.

Any ideas? Any one else had this issue?

Are you using the same pump at the same station or is this an issue at different pumps?

I've heard that a bad charcoal/evap canister can cause this. If you are one of those people that tops off the tank at every fill up, this can damage the canister over time to where it needs replacing.

I had this same issue but noticed it was only on one pump. Used several different pumps and it didn’t happen again. Tried the pump again and the problem persisted. Like @six5creed said, maybe try a new pump

I would pull the filler neck and check the roll over check valve as well as vent hoses and connections. A bad charcoal cannister would cause a Check engine light. P0441 P0442 P0446
Does your CEL come on with key to ON position? Does the CEL stay on with engine running?

Different pumps in different states, same every time.

Will check the roll over check valve as well as vent hoses and connections.

I also would like to pictures of the "vent on top of rad" please.

Thank you all for the quick replies.

So I did have it in the shop for an Evap code just a few months ago. I need to call the shop and see what all they replaced after conducting the smoke test. The light, knock on wood, has stayed off.

I found this link also referring to the over fill/roll over valve: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/overfill-check-valve.332553/

Black Dog Lila I think you are on the money, found this article https://www.samarins.com/glossary/vent-valve.html . The last sentence in the article "A clogged up vent valve can cause trouble filling the gas tank."

    Again, thank you all.

If you had an evap code and they were trying to do a smoke test for leaks, but now everything’s fine but can’t fill?

Sounds kind of fishy to me. Like they plugged a line somewhere to make the evap happy when it tries to hold vacuum. Shady work like that could give you issues if it was done on the vent tube.

Just a random thought. Was the problem before having the shop look at it or did it start after?

It was happening before. I have known the owner of this shop for nearly 25 years, I trust them. Thanks though for the heads up.

From a few years ago on this forum:

"Newer cars do to pollution laws have to have a system that catch the evaporated gas. Some times the line gets gunk in It and doesn’t let air escape which tricks the gas filler to think its full so it cuts off. Trying puling the line to the evap canister off and blowing air through it to try and dislodge the gunk. Or your evap canistor is bad"

Mine has one of those cannisters and was the cause. The oil change guy monkied around with it during the oil change. I think he did it on purpose to get me back there, the scoundrel. The problem was solved after seeing to it being in proper condition. I'd definitely look into that as the cause.

I haven't tried with a gas can, but its annoying since I cant fill up at certain gas stations. unless i want to spend 15 minutes filling up.
