I switched to Blackhorn 209 a couple of years ago, no change in shot placement and it's so much cleaner and easier to load after a couple of shots.

I had some Pyrodex pellets, tried to sell them and wound up giving them to a friend.

Running 65grains of pyrodex RS and a 245 maxi ball that I can still find at Track of the wolf in my 80s TC Hawken .45. Got it used in '85, hunted it a bunch then refinished it a couple years ago and added a toe guard to hide where I muffed a sling attachment years ago.

Before I refinished it to show the transformation:

One more and I'll crawl back under my rock. I just had to have me a John Wayne style leather case for that old muzzleloader. So I found one from a fella that still handmakes them. Then I used some fabric paint and made it mine. May be silly but I sure like it a lot. The running stuff is a running joke with me and mine.

Looks really good. My brother in law has a similar Hawkins that he uses to hunt black powder in Colorado. The last time he went a huge bull elk caught his scent and chased him under a Spruce tree with low slung branches growing all the way to the ground. As he tells it, he stuck the barrel of his Hawkins out in the general direction of the enraged animal and fired it off…completely missing the mark. But it was enough to send the bull packing.

My dad has that same muzzle loader, shot a lot of deer with it through the years including his white one in 1982

Hey all! Didn't know there was a muzzleloader thread. A friend of my just got me into it. Bought a Thompson Center Triumph? Believe that's what it is. Was using pyrodex pellets with powerbelt aerotip 245 grain bullets and triple 7 primers that were included but looking to change this load out completely as the pyrodex is dirty stuff.

So far I know I'll probably be using blackhorn 209 and CCi primers. Debating bullets either PB aerotips, PB platinum, or federal bor locks. Anyone got opinions?

Nice gun! Blackhorn 209 is awesome. Hope you’ve got some primers, I haven’t see any in a store for a while.

Primers seems to not be too difficult to get. It's the bh209 that's been a bear to find. Looks like it goes for 80 bucks now where it use to be like 35.

A good friend of mine came by the other day and said this was his brothers, he passed away several years ago and he had no need for it. He ask could he give it to my son. I said sure.

Anybody ever have one of these from the 1990's? He gave me the gun and said he thought he had some stuff that went with it, he sent me the picture of what he found.

It's a Knight LK-II that uses the red plastic adapters for the primer. I've seen them but never messed with one.

That looks just like my Bighorn. My kit came with the plastics but I bought a breech plug kit from knight which came with 2 different sizes that allows me to shoot musket caps or 209’s without using the plastic adapters.

When I bought mine I called first they were super helpful and within a couple of days I had the parts

I think the LK II may have a shorter barrel than my bighorn. Something to consider when determining your powder slug combo. Should shoot nice if it’s been taken care of.

Congratulations. That will be a great gun. Makes me want to get mine out of the safe and go to the range!

The Knight is spot on, this was at 60 yards. First shot.
