I'll check em out! Coal mine road is definitely on my list, how would you say that trail is difficulty wise?

Coal Mine Rd., the actual dirt road, could be driven in a moderate clearance passenger vehicle (like a subaru) in dry conditions. You will have no issues in your tacoma.

There are miles and miles of four wheeler trails that leave the main road. Given the rocky terrain, you shouldn't have any issues on these either. Just watch out for boulders hidden in the brush on the side of the trails... I connected with one pretty solidly.

And I'm pretty sure I have a CV going out.

It's about time. 155,000 miles, I've been waiting for this.

Turns out, it was just my CV boots that had cracked. The CV joints / axels were fine. It was about $120 for new boots from the dealership. Otherwise it would have been $540 for each axel.

I'm sorry to hear your joints are going out.

Did you have any noise before replacing the boots?

No, just oil everywhere. I also had squeaky uniballs, which may have masked a noise.

Went out for some late season berry picking yesterday. Found a nice spot overlooking Minto Flats that I will definitely return to for some long range shooting and camping.

Chase, question for you. I saw a while back where you reinforced the frame horns with plate. If I were to add plate to mine, would it affect fitment of a plate bumper?

    Thanks

It would just push it out (forward) the thickness of whatever plate you use.

Okay thanks. Makes sense, just thought I'd ask. Your updated pics look good. One day I'll go to Alaska. :)

    Uhhh...

Tire carrier ripped up the metal portion of the bed that I had bolted it to for extra security. Re-plated it and put a backer plate on it, shouldn't do it again.

And the other side of the bedsides was bent / cracked, enough to push the tail light out. No idea where that happened, don't remember any impacts on that portion of the truck.

Some more recent pictures. Went bird hunting yesterday and couldn't pass up a good natural flex ramp.

And was out bow hunting the other day behind my house in the sloughs of the Tanana river. The truck generally floats amazing well over some very soft, very sticky mud; but this time I got a little too confident and attempted a three point turn on some soft stuff. Ended up being a pretty good stuck. Dug and dug and dug, used the high lift to get some clearance from the mud, and eventually winched out with another vehicle as an anchor.

Out doing some load development today with my daughter. The Ruger Precision Rifle ended up liking 40.6 of AA2230 best. Five shot group at 100 yards. Group is .88 MOA center to center on all five and .46 MOA when you drop the flyer.

Not in season, but still cool to get out and see some of the forty mile caribou herd.
