    Hello fellow 1st gen owners.

This is my first post here, but I’ve lurked for years. I’m the second owner of an 02 double cab prerunner. I bought the truck 15 years ago when I was in high school. It had 36k on on. It now has 218k. I’ve always kept up with fluid changes, belts, and plugs. Paint and suspension were neglected.

A month ago I had a lower ball joint failure on the freeway. I got lucky that there wasn’t catastrophic damage. I had it towed to my house and replaced the upper and lower ball joints as well as the brake line, and a tire. That was all that was damaged.

I’ll be doing the other side, as well as LCA bushings, and throwing on OME suspension.

I love my truck and always said I would drive it till the wheels fell off. Well they did. And I’m still driving it. This is my build/restoration thread. 72A87D45-E963-4636-B6D3-A7AA33596E4F.jpg

Fixed corner lamps and my 7 year old Satoshi mod. I need to replace the mesh in it, but it’s better than it was.E9D53B7C-A116-4CE2-B14A-308070B875E1.jpg

looks like a nice little project, I just fixed up the paint on mine with Raptorliner

Hey random question, how well is the raptorliner holding up? I just sprayed last week and I’m probably way too nervous about it haha

Truck looks great! I have big plans. Suspension is the most immediate thing I need to do, but I’m actively looking for the parts I need for a 4x4 swap.

projector headlights are also a priority, because I cannot see at night with the stock lights. The electrical stuff is going to take some researching cause I’m lost on it.

I’m HIGHLY considering raptor liner. I just don’t know if I’ll be able to pull the trigger, or if I’m just going to repaint it black. I don’t really like black, but it would be the easiest option.

Either way, I’ll be raptor lining the bed, bumpers, fender flares, and maybe grill soon.

I debated about it for months. It wasn’t that hard to spray, just took a lot of time to prep

Did you use a hvlp? Or the gun that comes with the kit. I was leaning towards thinning and spraying with an hvlp for a flatter finish.

I used the gun that came with the kit, but I wanted a more textured finish. Shot 2 coats at 40 psi then did my dust coat at 60

My brothers truck has been sprayed for about 6 months. So far really good. But we did a lot of sanding. And wax and grease remover. Yours looks freaking awesome

That sounds awesome. I really will try to keep up to your build. I would definitely recommend manual transmission swap if you are going to 4x4 swap it. My truck is manual swaped and I love it so much. It does a lot better off road.

If you get tintable raptor liner and prep it really good it will be easier than painting it. Easier to hide little stuff. Like big scratches and small dents. If you do it yourself. Put a regulator right before your gun. Regulate it down to about 30psi. It lays really even if you do talk.

By painting it black, I mean sanding off the peeling clear coat, paint matching the spots I sanded, and re clear coating, not a full repaint. But I love some of the blueish gray raptor line jobs I’ve seen.

first things first I gotta line the bed, bumpers, flares and grill. I just ordered a new mesh for my grill, probably gonna get bigger letters as well. I have an ugly lumber rack on my truck that I used when I remodeled my house. I don’t need it anymore so it’s coming off, but I drilled holes for it and will need to fill them. Cool. I see. I would like to see it finished. I think do what you want. Don’t try to please everyone because that’s impossible. It will turn out really good. I freakin love these double cabs.

Here she is sanded down and covered with self etching primer in all the various spots I accidentally sanded down to bare metal

    4E4430C6-BC5B-41AD-AAEA-44CBD809BB4F.jpg

I think I sanded enough, was following guidance from the Raptorliner Facebook group and sanded through the clear

Looks good!! I don’t know how it holds to chrome if that’s the same rear bumper. How many bottles of Raptor liner did you end up using? I think it should be pretty durable. Looks really even. You did a really good job.
