I seem to average around 14.7 L/100 km. Mostly urban driving and I expected that once the engine was broken in. The taco has 7 700 kms.
Sure it could be better but its no Prius thats for sure.

I'm not really an MPG hawk... I've only been paying attention because I just bought the thing and it has a giant display of gas mileage as the default screen. BUT, I can tell you that that little screen lies. I just filled up on my way home from work. The computer says I averaged 15.7mpg for this tank. But, real, actual math based on miles driven and gallons poured says it's really 18.2 - which with me lead footing it around isn't that bad.

So, now I can quit bitching about the mileage and complain about computer inaccuracy!

toyota never lied, go do the test using the numbers the EPA uses to get these numbers. go drive on the freeway at 55mph and see what gas mileage you get.
you bought a truck with out researching and expected unrealistic numbers. So why buy a toyota when you sell GMC? last i drove one, when i drove at 80 it did not get the highway MPG estimated, it got worse.

now go put a tundra V8 in your truck and you will get better MPG too :D not to mention a diesel.

My 550+hp car gets better mileage than my truck too, imagine that. Couldn't be because it's lighter, and isn't the shape of a brick.

75 mph is my sweet spot for fuel economy when using cruise control. 23.2 mpg by hand.

So let's see what the Taco is over a year, right now your not comparing fairly. And as others mentioned the motor size does say a lot. When I bought my 09, I stayed with a 4 banger for the fuel mileage, I realized that when I was hauling gear to a camping trip or towing anything the gas gauge moved faster than my speedometer. So this time I went for the v6, expecting it to have a less drastic drop in fuel economy. My point being the bigger motor will pull more with less consumtion. That big Hemi is moving the weight way easier than you new v6 will. But again I didn't buy my Taco for fuel economy, I bought it cause it's fun as f l o c k to drive.

That says something when the sales guy doesn't buy what he is selling. It's like the Chevy sales guy telling me how he just took a used taco like my old one and sold it to his son the next day.

This is getting ugly, if it helps I'm almost certain I was getting about 10mpgs in my 95 4runner. In all honesty great mpgs are awesome, but I don't think any of us purchased the taco for fuel economy. I do miss driving my roommates prius. We drove allover the northeast in that thing and would average 41mpgs doing 75. It was awesome going to the pump and spending 15 dollars to fill up.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
    .
... ^^^ ... That's actually decent mileage ... considering it's new and those speeds ... you have to push it to stay at 80 MPH (especially on any incline).

FWIW ... my mileage went down after the first 1,000 miles ... need to get the transmission TSB done ... now running 36 PSI - F&R (this helps) ... 4x2 here also.

My first 10k miles I was trending around 22mpg (stock TRD OR DCSB), just took her on road trip over 2,000miles. Averaged at probably 75-85mph for the majority of the trip, and computer was telling me i was getting around 16 miles per gallon, which really bummed me out. After I reached destination I looked at bank records to find out how much I spent on gas, did the math for how many miles I had driven and I was actually getting around 23miles per gallon for the over-all trip. computers lie.

I just got mine today, but I am glad to see the "live" gauge as I think someone called it. My wifes Outback has one and when I am concerned about mpgs, I just drive trying to keep the gauge on the plus side.

If you want to try and and find out where you get your best MPG, buy an Ultragauge and pay attention to it. Tacomas get THE WORST fuel economy of pretty much any new vehicle I have seen. No where near the sticker. I average 19 with my 4cyl 5spd 4x4 with 265/70/17 and a wheel/tire package that is a good bit lighter than the stock ones and aired up. Now, that aside, why would you buy a truck or any new vehicle without doing some real life research, like coming on here for example, if you are concerned about MPG? Should've bought an Eco-Diesel they are about the only truck that gets at or better than what is on the sticker. Oh and leave it as stock as possible, no bolt on or any kind of "power adder" will only kill your MPG. Last, anyone who tells you that you will get your best MPG at anything above about 60mph is full of it. These trucks suck for MPG and Toyota and the EPA should be ashamed.

My Frontier Pro-4x gets a consistent 18.8MPG with the cruise set to 80MPH in 6th. The rest of the highways here are 50-60MPH where I see 20-23.5MPG on a regular basis, it really depends on how many red lights I hit. For an older truck with 265/75R16s it eats up the hilly PNW highways quite well.

Is it safe to assume a 2017 TRD OR AC 6spd (I'm in Canada) could achieve the same numbers? I won't be looking for a new truck for a few years yet but the Tacoma is still on the list.

My 17 DCOR4x4 is seeing 20.5mpg almost every tank hand calc. Dash says 21 and I'm at 3800 miles.

This will drastically change next week however. Gonna miss the mpgs.

    OP,

I was getting 13.5 city and 16/18 highway with a 4x4 4d v6 sport. I was pissed. I took it to the dealer and they lied and told me it was getting 19 avg. I did the math and was getting 13.5 ave per tank and thats what the eco was telling me too.. I believe the 4x4 on some of these trucks dont disengage correctly. I played with it and heard a huge clunk when it finally disengaed and I got 16/19 city and my best on the highway was 28.8 with the ac off and going about 70mph. normally I get 21/24mpg on the highway... I dont know if you have played with the 4x4 from low to high. I have also noticed that you have to go from low to high and drive for a bit then go to 2wd from high. you cant go from low to 2wd.

Just my experience with this damn truck... I had 900 miles when I was gettting 13.5mpg and in 5 min playing with the 4x4 I got 18 city and 23ish highway..

False. Break in period is a fallacy. I have 17k on my 2016 and it is the same gas mileage as the day I rolled it off the lot...well actually it declined slightly over several months and several thousand miles.

    Insert velociraptor refrigerator/fridge meme here.

If you drive the Tacoma off the lot, and most of the test drives were city... depending on how many miles were on it... wouldn't the average MPG show lower than expected until the majority of driving is highway????

Agreed. My fuel economy is unchanged from day one. It has deteriorated in conjunction with mods and other odds and ends, but unloaded with the canopy off, it's pretty well the same. She's a piggy.

I'm at about 700 miles with a 4x4 and babying it, so far about 18mpg and i also did better on my hemi dodge. So much for 24, maybe it will get better but now running a little bigger tire to so we will see.
