It reads texts, never have it read email so not sure. Basically either Siri or Google reads them depending on your phone.

Yes, but Android Auto still knows if your moving so some features you can't bypass. But I can watch DVD movies, pull up rear camera while moving.

Maestro just plugs into your factory harness. All you have to do is go online, register, select your truck/trim/HU, set your steering wheel controls, and upload your firmware to the device. Don't need to worry about your outputs, those still just go from your HU to the amp(s). Hardest part is managing the flying spaghetti monster that the Maestro RR creates behind the HU...

I love the guages. Can you program them to show your pitch and roll of the vehicle? Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the Off Roads have those gauges built into the center dash. The sport doesn't have them at all. Would be cool to have that function.

Oh makes sense now. I wish I could find an actual wiring diagram to nerd out on, rather than just the holly hobby cliff notes they give you when you look up your vehicle.

Thanks for the help guys :hattip:

Dude, this build looks great!! The only thing I’d change about the current gen Taco is the sound in non-pro models. (And the seat height as I’m 6”4’.) I knew that going into it though.

I thought about using that storage area behind the seat as a place for a box as well. Seeing that in your build is awesome!! Definitely motivating to get started.

I like your build, and you've inspired me to get off of my butt and get rid of that Entune pig they call a head unit.

After speaking with Crutchfield, a few questions:

Does your USB adapter allow you full functionality? The rep told a few horror stories about USB adapters, no matter who they're from - not giving constant connectivity or outright not working at all. He recommended a USB cable straight from the HU. So how's your adapter?

He also mentioned a satellite tuner in addition to the Maestro STO2, but my unit (Kenwood ddx9704s) is Satellite Radio Ready, is this necessary?

Any things you would have done differently?

I only use my USB for my phone for Android Auto. That being said I did use a memory stick to load images to the HU as well. I have not run into any issues thus far. Android Auto and Apple Car Play both work great via the USB Cable using the adapter to keep the factory location. It even fast charges my Android Phone. For XM I bought the adapter to keep the factory antenna and you have to buy a module that plugs into the radio. Although they say XM ready you still need this piece. I believe it is the SXV300V1. Should be like $50. Only thing I wish I would have done is gone ahead and added a front camera.

What adapters did you use to fit the door speakers?

Went with the white background myself & I love this system. The trans. temp is nice but my throttle position act kinda weird. Even @ full throttle it says like 40% then right back to 10%. Anybody else have this?

Anytime. I know there are higher quality kits out there, but these haven't given me any issues yet

    I like your install!

I noticed that you do not have the package that includes auto climate control (I don't either). With the iDatalink Maestro, are you able to change the climate controls through your HU? I've seen pictures of other vehicles that can do this with the Maestro + Kenwood setup, but those vehicles already had upgraded climate controls.

I am not. That feature only works if it was there from the factory.

    Thanks,
