I had a 2000 Tacoma and was without a doubt the best vehicle I've ever owned. Someone decided to use it as brakes and totaled it. Thinking the 2000 was such a fantastic truck, I bought a new 2017 hoping it would be as good or maybe even better. I literally hate this truck. It drives like complete crap and I feel like I need to stomp on the gas just to keep it in a gear that might actually cause the truck to move forward. Is there anything I can do to fix this for am I going to have to get rid of it and find a used 2000?

I have an 18’ that I got after my 07 was totalled. I was really partial to the 07 and had a hard time adjusting to the 18’, my biggest dislike was at steady speeds around 60kmh it seemed to almost slip or stutter like a manual in to high of a gear. I told this to my dealer at the first service and they did a TSB for shutter between 50-70km and it drives like a different truck, much more enjoyable and a lot more like the 07’ with a lot more get up and go.

I wouldn’t sell yet, there’s a lot of hate it here for 3rd gens. Especially automatics. Don’t treat it or expect it to be the same truck as you had. Drive it and get used to it, 6 months down the road if your still not happy then you know what to do. In my opinion I think this generation will be just as reliable and sought after as previous Tacoma’s and Toyota pickups.

If this one got totalled tomorrow, you’d see me right back at Toyota in another Tacoma.

Man, I had a 1st gen Tacoma as well. There is no WAY that truck, though I loved it then, compares to the 3rd Gen. The new truck is more refined, comfortable, capable, efficient, and safe than the 1st Gen. I would never ever go back to that truck.

I would try just engaging the ECT button, and get your dealer to do the TSB. If that doesn't work, see about an OV Tune.

I had a 2000 regular cab 4x4, 5 speed, 2.7L, no AC and no radio! Drove it for 10 years and then bought a used 2006 DCSB V6 off road. I now have a 2019 DCSB OR. I truly have loved all those Tacoma’s. Each had strengths and weaknesses. I will say this 2019 is the best so far for me! If your not happy then you should sell it. I do miss the simplicity of my 2000. To much tech in today’s trucks IMO. But that is the world we live in.

TSB 62-18 for a Wide Open Throttle stumble. If when you floor the pedal, your rig surges, pauses to hunt for a gear, then takes off, 62-18 will fix it along with many other gear hunting issues.

    Lol good answer,

A golden ray of sunshine, in the darkness of Trollcoma World Lol

The software update will also come up if the dealer does a "Health check" with techstream on your truck. They reset the "learned" data in your truck too.

Once this is done OP will think it is a different engine in the truck.

If OP is still un-satisfied look into the thread about OVTune 1.05
