I have one, my 01. No floor carpet. Headliner. Cup holders. Barely any sound system. Manual trans. No consideration for comfort through suspension. No a/c. No tpms or power anything. You were saying? The things kills off road. And yeah, compared to some of the luxury cars meant to look like trucks, we are driving “spartan mobiles”. You often type the words “kidding yourselves”, but it doesn’t mean much. Some of us are looking at it as it is. My 17 for example- is has the LEAST amenities and tomfoolery one can get from a new production vehicle. You do love the attempt at pissing in Cheerios, but it doesn’t work when others don’t find you credible in certain departments.

You don’t grasp the concept- LESS computer is better than MORE computer. For some.

Plenty of people on here have driven old vehicles. Get off your high horse. If you don't like the post move on. Jesus.... he enjoys his truck... sharing on the truck's forum. You're being a real dick head.

So now when people have a different opinion, we aren't allowed to post? On a public forum? Grow some thicker skin. You know, the kind that rough-n-tuff, computerless, bare-bones tough-guy truck men are supposed to have. Go have your morning bowl of cereal and beer and relax.

Nice reading about your buying experience and that's a good looking truck! I was looking at the Off road manual and auto, ended up going with auto. The technology package, especially blind spot monitor and heated mirrors have been great up in snowy white north. But regardless any Tacoma is a nice truck! :):bananadance::boom:

News flash--People haven't found me credible in a lot of departments. But, doesn't mean what I'm saying isn't true. Take your '17 for example. Least amenities? Did you know a Ram tradesman still has power windows as an OPTION? Non-touch screen radio or USB ports? And regular cab is still available? Compared to that, your SR(5) is a nanny-pansy wiener mobile. Kind of like what you call us DC people. Stings, right? Yeah, hurt me, too.

Less computer=better. Ok, sure. So the new truck adds a couple of components out of hundreds of computerized parts and all of the sudden it's just too much? Two buttons in the cockpit, with an "Off" button, I might add? What's really different from your '17? If staring at your rubber floors and rear seat delete makes you happy, that is just fine with me. But don't kid yourself.

I get it, there are those on both sides of advances in technology. I have been around long enough to know it is cyclical and comes in waves. There is an upside and a downside to it. The upside is that vehicles are much more convenient and safer. The downside is that somethings are overbearing and make entire systems and vehicles disposable. Technology will always be a "best guess", but it is still critical to have that "butt in the seat" making the final call.

I love the TSS features, but at the same time I'm happy to have a manual seat. I'm sure there is someone out there that doesn't want TSS and wants a power seat.

I'm definitely intrigued by the radar adaptive cruise control. I could see liking that.
I gotta call big time BS on this being similar to Gen 2 vs Gen 3. That's like comparing a bad baby to Hitler.

It's got it's ups and downs.... The up - you set your favorite speed and forget it... you'll go up to that speed and if things slow down... you'll do whatever the car in front is doing. The down - when you come upon another car who is going slower than you, you can't judge your approach to know to go around them. You'll just find yourself going whatever happy speed they are doing. Kind of annoying to find that you were going 70 and for the last few miles you've been doing 48 behind "that guy" who interpreted the sign at the entrance to the interstate saying "minimum speed 45" as an acceptable average. For those stretches, you'll find yourself using ye old fixed speed mode.

    Dunno. TLDR.

lol...nah, I read it. I got it. I dug it.
Here's the bottom line for me (from my own selfish perspective):

There are plenty of guys like you and me out there who will value my truck higher than the 2018+ versions because it was the last version before TSS.

Maybe it's bullshit, maybe we're "kidding ourselves". Maybe we're old fuddy duddies (what IS that?). Maybe I'm clinging to the IDEA of the old '84 Ford pickup from the farm that was a bone stock, no frills model (because my dad was a miser), but was just a basic awesome machine. Hell, I started driving it to school when I turned 14. I daresay I have never loved a vehicle more when I first stepped into it than that stupid tan basic inline 6, 4 speed, dual stick 4x4 with manual locking hubs and a shitload of dents. The most high tech thing in that truck was the radio. The tape player was an option (that we didn't get).

AND (for the record) I really don't like them damn kids on my lawn. ok?

I get you. I sometimes pine for those days/things too. I laugh when I hear that another carjacking was foiled because the vehicle had a manual (sadly it seems monthly). Then I laugh harder thinking what they would have thought getting into those old trucks with 3 on the tree. I'd pay good money to witness that.

Make sure you pick up after that dog!

It seems it would work well on my commute (4 lane undivided--hey, probably wouldn't mind collision avoidance either!). People mostly going 55, but some plus 5, some -5. I assume you can set the following distance as well.

Hey, let's say you want to jump into the left lane, pass a slow car, and then cut back to right. Do you have to reset the cruise control (as I would expect)?

And I'm not talking about juicing up the cruise control with my thumb. I hate doing that. Feels weird, like I'm trying to kill a rhino with a toothpick.

Wait. Am I off topic? :D
