The past few days, every morning, my truck has had a more “stumbly” start than usual, taking an extra crank or two and being a bit slow to start (but always does)

However, this morning it did that, and then after allowing it to warm up for two mins, I put it in reverse and the engine RPM started bouncing/surging repeatedly. Kind of like a mower engine running rich.

Anyone ever experience this? Truck only has 22,500 KM on the clock. Never abused. Literally take better care of the truck than I do of myself lol. Help ease my mind. I’ll be testing the battery with my load tester tonight. A quick OBD2 scan reveals no pending codes.

I would put the blame on the battery, not enough driving means it gets weaker over time.

A trickle charger would be a good idea, I just installed one on a similar truck, 2017 with 40,000km. Fairly easy.

    few things here and there.
Battery sounds like the likely culprit. IMO. Good idea on checking for sure.

It is routinely on a trickle charger as I have other vehicles in use. But it is still driven every week at the minimum as well. I’d love to have an on-board one and will do that with the next battery. My go-to for any odd automotive behaviour is a battery check, but this oddity gave me a bad feeling for some reason. Will report back with load test results once I’m home from work.

Thanks man. Fingers crossed it’s just the battery. It is still original, but well maintained and I even topped it up with distilled water last spring. Tested healthy back then but we shall see…

Im hoping for the best for you!

My wife’s 2017 Jetta has had the original battery since new. Last week, out of nowhere, it just gave out.

So, weirder things have happened! Also, check your alt as well!
