As the title says, 2 nights ago I got home from school around 9:30PM and parked in one of the unassigned parking spots of the neighborhood. The next morning I get up for work and do my usual routine, then head over to my car at 8:30AM to realize it's not where I parked it. For a second I think, "wait.. did I park it somewhere else?" So I retrace my steps, look into the distance and nothing.. It dawns on me.. I walked over to the spot where I remember parking it & looked at the floor.. Metal shavings, just like last time.

About a little over a month ago my car's driver side door lock was drilled out but nothing else, seeming as if whoever was doing this got interrupted. I found the same metal shavings on the floor next to the car. I filed a police report, expressed to the neighborhood the lack of security cameras, filed a claim, and got it fixed.

No doubt in my mind it's the same people from the first incident that just ended up returning to finish the job. A couple of things though, there was a TRD Sport AT parked less than 100 ft away, and 2 SR5's about 50 ft away. Why take mine? Only difference between my Tacoma and the TRD Sport is the transmission. I thought, "does that mean the MT is more vulnerable to theft for the lack of smart entry?" Who knows.. I also had a club bar steering wheel lock installed with the lock facing the dash, but to no avail. It's been devastating to say the least, I'm sure we're all similar in a way that our cars aren't just cars to us, but because we put our blood sweat and tears into them, they become something special. Hopefully they find it and in good shape, if they don't.. I'm dealt with another grand task, dealing with insurance payout & finding a Tacoma. :(:rain:

These are some of my favorite pictures of her that I've taken over these last few short months.

Shitty. Unfortunately the club is probably the easiest anti-theft device to defeat. A battery sawzall will cut right through it or the steering wheel in about 10 seconds and the thieves are on the road.

Yeah I figured it was just a small deterrent, I'm working on moving out of this area ASAP. But other than that I barely even had enough time to get an alarm system.

Posts like this are where I wish there was an "unlike" reaction option.

Really hate this for you. I hope LE can recover it for you, soon.

Damn, and here I thought manuals were theft deterrents.

When I first got my 2020, someone tried stealing it (found hanger marks on driver side), but they gave up. I figured it was either because it's a manual, because of the tints making it hard to see, or both.

I use to think the same thing, but I feel confident this scenario proved opposite, unfortunately..

Sorry for your misfortune... unfortunately your truck was probably chosen for a reason.. special order shall we say. As for it being a manual or auto, makes no difference. If they want it they will take it... it would be nice it there was more done to deter this.. like better shipping inspection to stop these vehicles from going to foreign countries...

    Story time...

I had a leased 2017 4Runner, SR5, 4X4, Magnetic Grey, ect. in you guessed it, 2017. Always parked in the driveway as the garage was full with 2 other vehicles. There were a few cars and people that were constantly scouting it. A meth head couple in an older white ford ranger had come by no less than 20 times and all made multiple attempts to steal it over the period of 2-3 months. Scanning for a code to copy the key (despite no keyless entry:rofl:), taking pictures of the vin and license plate and always at 2-4am in the morning in my driveway. The police were absolutely worthless, but they never got the vehicle. I eventually realized they were pulling the code from my tacoma key fob and trying to use it to boost the 4runner. Idiots.

I ended up disconnecting the battery and pulling the starter and fuel pump fuses along with a steering wheel and brake pedal lock. I was tempted to leave it on jack stands and pull the wheels, but never did. Also re-evaluted my insurance theft coverages.

Several months later on Thanksgiving morning my neighbors car was stolen and another neighbors guns out of his truck that he didn't lock. Dumbass. The guns were never recovered, but the car was found abandoned several blocks away.

Not long after came across an article online about 4Runners being boosted for shipment to Africa. Who would have thought. :notsure:

Can't you use the toyota app to locate the truck? It's free for the first year, so I would imagine it can be found

Make a custom mount for this 541F4382-AF4C-446B-ABBA-C283CBD40E14.jpgand a clutch club and it will likely prevent it . My 240 had them and the car would get unlocked and shit stolen but they never could get the car without towing it . At that point nothing g matters

Man that sucks. My brother in law had his MR2 stolen in college. It was found a week later completely stripped. They even took the fiberglassed-in subwoofer box! No body panels left, not even brakes. I do find it interesting how easy it seems to be to steal these. I don't live in the greatest city but auto theft is pretty low. Hopefully it never happens to me.
