My 2nd Gen Aux Reverse Lights

Can you confirm the measurements for the lights?

 

The glass of the lights is 6x1, the metal is 7.5x1.7. I can make sure those are right in the AM. Those are rough.

Just out of curiosity, why'd you choose these lights/mounting method as opposed to using lights with a "traditional" light mount and mounting to the pre-existing holes in the bumper? Not knocking your install OP, just legitimately curious.

 

I have not seen any lights mounted in the "pre existing holes." I've seen flush mount lights in the bumper, but I don't like those and I'd have to get a new bumper first. What do you mean by "traditional" light mounts?

 

The style of mount I was referring to was the type found on halogens and other small LED's (similar to what's pictured below). Wasn't sure what that style is actually called, I just know it's what I normally see on off road lights of all kinds.



I noticed your truck is a 12, so maybe Toyota quit putting the holes in the bumper? Mine were mounted with them.

 

Those probably could work. To be honest I didn't know those existed lol. But hey I've already done it so no going back

Is the housing plastic or aluminum on those lights?

 

The housing is aluminum, or another type of metal. Lense is glass or incredibly strong plastic that feels just like glass.

Hey everybody, forgot to update this showing the new switches and the aux fuse box.

The switches are also wired into my remote start parking light output. The reason I did this is for when ever I unlock or lock the truck, or remote start the lights will come on. Also hooked up into my light bar up front. This was done using diodes. The reverse light was also diode isolated into the reverse line in the kick panel. The reverse lights have 3 triggers, light bar up front has 2. The auxiliary fuse box will support 4 more lights for the future. It's ran off 4 gauge wire.
The lights turn on with the dash lights thanks to a fuse tap in the lower dash fuse box. The lights can not turn on unless they are on, except they can still be activated via the remote start or reverse. The switches also illuminate the top light whenever the switch is depressed meaning the circuit is on. The picture doesn't show it but I mounted the relays to the aux fuse box and mounted my remote start siren next to it on the factory fuse box. Also covered the wires coming from my fire wall in split loom.

 

welcome to the club. I did mine 2yrs ago. Just drilled into hitch receiver instead of jb. I think my lights are similar. I have a shell so these are must have.

 

Lights look similar and very clean. Was it difficult drilling into the beam?

 

Nope. Just make sure you have a wrench long enough to fish through the end of the receiver.

 

Hey OP, how's the JB holding up so far?

 

Absolutely perfect. Still as strong as when it was first put on. I can try and pry it as hard as I can but it just starts bending the metal mounting plate. I highly doubt the jb weld will ever come off. Granted, the 2 spots being cold welded together need proper sanding and prep work to make it stick well.

 

Next upgrade I'm doing to my taco is lighting. I got deep in the backwoods and learned the hard way through 3' tall grass that factory lighting is... inadequate. Thinking 50" light bar on top, two extra fogs in the lower grill, and something like this for reverse. Id rather mount them higher up since factory lighting is garbage is brush, but then again, the only other option would be top of the tailgate or on the back of the cab. Both places they would get crushed anytime I use the truck bed... undecided on location, but great step by step erod998!! I always save these pages for when I decide to finally take the plunge. They look great!
