Sure is, I did a search for 95 to 2000's and there was six pages of engines.

    Hey Ken,

I know we are all told they are crushed but I can guarantee you they are not crushed up here. I went to a yard in North Bay that had 25 tacoma's they bought through auction that all had bad frames. They are allowed to sell everything but the frame.

Here's where the guarantee comes in, I was in our local salvage yard looking for a box to swap with my stepside when i saw my old '98 tacoma that was bought back from me, picked over. The box was gone as well as doors but my stickers in the extended cab window were still there. This was three years after "it was crushed"....so i think this crushing business is a myth.

Bottom line...parts forever for tacoma's if you need.

Thanks, now i just have to persuade the wife to allow the funds. I should've told her i was fixing it to flip, then she would'nt care as long as i put the money back after it's sold, but i told her i wanted to build it and keep it has a toy, you know, a small lift, wheels/tires and custom bumpers. I told her for the price i paid i could never replace it. If i wanna keep and build this she wants me to sell one of my chevelles or atvs, a toy for a toy. I have to admit i do have alot of vehicles and motorcycles, but like i told her what's one more, lol!

Yes yes, but then you will want to SAS the truck, then link it, then a supercharger :D

These trucks are too addicting

I found a complete 3.4L longblock from a 99 4runner 4x4 with 155k for $600.00 from a private seller, before i make the purchase will this engine work in my 04 taco 4x4? I've read that i should find a 01-04 replacement. What mods, if any, should i expect with the 99 runner engine? If need be can i just use the 99 heads on my 04 shortblock after i have it rebuilt? Any difference with the emissions equipment from the 99 to the 04? Sorry for all ???'s but i want to educate myself before spending my hard earned cash, thanks.

To be free of any issues I would just use the 99 runner long block.

That's what i plan to do as long has there are no issues. I just wanna find out if there is a difference because of the 5 year span. I'm hoping that i can get away with just replacing the timing belt, water pump, spark plugs/wires, drive belts, hoses and maybe a clutch and bolt it in and go with no major complications. Thanks for the quick reply Dennis.

would you have problems with the ECU on the long block working with the current set up? or does it come with an ECU and all the wiring? that would be the biggest difference i would think between the 01-04 3.4's and the 99...

No 650H1 it does'nt come with any wiring, just the complete motor minus the accessories. When i was pricing 3.4's from salvage yards they were quoting me crazy prices for 01-04 3.4's, that's why i suspect somethings may be different, but what exactly is different from a 99 to the 01-04's? Anybody ever done this swap?

What are the MD emission rules about putting an older engine into a newer vehicle?

what were they quoting you for the 01-04 engines? even if they wanted 2000 bucks that is worth it to have it done right. think of it as if you use all the right parts, you could sell it for 3x what you put into it, and buy a pretty bad ass SA trail rig... so money put into this project is defnintely not money lost.

Dmonkey if i was installing a pre-emission engine i would have issues, but with the 99 having emission components i would be ok in that aspect.

Ok I was just wondering because MD having emissions and being close to DC, i figured there was potential for having a Cali style law that states you cannot put an older engine in your car, this would include putting an 03 engine in my 04 despite there being absolutely zero differences between the years.

Have you looked into rebuilding the engine? This guy Luis @ Paradise racing: http://www.paradiseracing.com/Store/index.php?option=com_contact&Itemid=3 knows about everything about these trucks and performance. He'll probably know a credible shop in your area to price out the difference. You have a goldmine on your hands here, its worth the investment.

650H1, $1400 for a 02 3.4L with 130k. I know that with this project i'm way below the KBB value. I'm looking to build a cool trail rig and DD. My goal is a total investment of around 3k-4k for a lifted, dependable and good lookin' 1st gen. I can't go wrong with that kind of a investment!
