Just had my 5k done. They said oil change was due at 10k I told them I want it every 5k. They perform oil change for free. All looked good during inspection. One warranty issue I had was hood vibration. They will get me a rental Monday and have it sent to a body shop to repair the issue. So all in all great service.

You are only going to get 2 free oil changes. It's good they let you use them whenever you want. No need to change the OW20 at 5K IMHO.
Keep us posted on the hood fix. Toyota has not come up with an "Official" fix yet as far as I know. There have been some good ones, and some disasters.

I worked there so I know the service advisor he is a great friend. The hood they will remove all the old adhesive and add the new stuff and repaint just under the hood. My friend said they have had several cases of this so hopefully Toyota comes out with a TSB

Is this still a problem on the 2017s as well (the hood vibration)?

    Kind of unacceptable if so

How come you got a oil change at 5k miles? Think it's necessary?

I would follow your service depts recommendation, that way if they try to pin something off on you, they can't say that you didn't follow there service plan

I been a mechanic now for 20 years and I personally cannot see having to wait that long for an oil change. Just my opinion . My brother also works for lexus and they recommended 10k. Even he disagrees with it.

I worked for Toyota for 11 years so I know how it works. As long as you do your services before it's due they can't deny anything. If it's related to that. But there are Alot of people already changing differential fluid and putting in synthetic . That will void the warranty . So if you are performing the service before its due make sure its factory only.

You don't 'have to' wait. Just change it yourself whenever you wish.

Your free-so-we-can-see-you-and-sell-you-something-else changes can still start at the 10k.

For all the people who panic over doing the first change early to dump break in particles, preserve the longevity of your motor, etc etc., never buy a random used car. As you will be clueless how it was treated and it will likely implode.

Not saying it's not a good idea. Just that you should realize most folks won't.

I had the hood vibes on my 16 Limited ( 2200 miles ) and my Taco dealer changed the hood. Took about a week to do the change. Paint match is excellent.

That's normal most people never look behind or get to see behind a hood insulator.

Yes I agree. I'm not worried about it. It holds and works and paint matches.

I did the same, at 8800 now and have had 2 of my 5 free
oil changes done so far. I'm not worried about it, just trying to
get as many of the Free-5 I can before the 2 years is up. :D

I just test drove a 2017 today, the hood was vibrating, the trans was constantly up and down shifting, and I noticed a weird but faint howling noise around 55 MPH. It is a lot quieter than my 2015, handles well, has a pretty smooth ride, and is much nicer inside.

    What's actually different inside?
