well.....i had the used michleins on for about 5 days, and the hard bouncing ride disappeared but the steering wheel still shook(no suprise b/c they had about 35000 miles on them and were not rotated on a regular basis), yesterday i put my nexens back on, and the hard bounce is back but the steering wheel stays as still as can be( hard riding tire but have been balanced and rotated regularly, imo). i am started to think that my whole problem has been shaty tires. i found some brand new michleins ltx m/s for 500, as soon as a get the funds new tires it is.

to all who sprayed wd40 on their e-brake, where did you actually spray it? did you spray it on the cables and joints on the center of the rear truck? Or did you spray it near the wheel hub?

I sprayed everything that touched the e-brake, cables, or linkages. And by that, I mean WD40 was on sale...:D

I had this issue in my 97... having the tires rebalanced fixed the issue.

Dont mean to revive threads like a doctor, but do you think i should just get the traction bars and leave my leaf springs? I like the soft ride i have, but not the axle wrap. I'm not sure if it would be pointless to get just traction bars, or just get a whole new spring set(I also dont haul very often).

    Thanks

    getting there....
well....for what traction bars cost, versus new springs, i'd rather go with springs. try this first tho...........get a set of helper springs from autozone(around$25 to 30 or so) and see if that helps.

sorry guys for keeping this thread alive but i must share the good news. I finally got my truck straightened out. the problem was with my wheels, come to find out the previous owner for, some strange reason had put steel lug nuts on the stock alloy wheels and when they did the steel nuts just bored out the stud hole. this caused the wheel not to line up with the center ring on the hub which caused all 4 wheels to wobble. I bought some stock '04 wheels and tires from my buddy and now the problem no longer exists. at last i am able to get some sleep at night. :D

    My $.02

I went to stock wheels, new tires, and replaced my lugs (which were also acorn style, not the toyota mag style). Nice and smooth since. :D

I just did the same, junked my old stock steel pieces and bought stock 2006 trd rims and painted them. The crazy vibe is gone! I do still have a slight vibe in the seat when i am at like 65 mph, but its not enough to make me go crazy. My u-joints on both ends of the shaft are brand new, so maybe its the CSB causing a little vibe? i have no clue but I'm glad a few of us fixed the deadly shakes!

I would check all ball joints 1st. Second I would check your sway bar. They are hollow and the ends can break from corrosion. Also check the endlinks. (the threaded rods that attach to the ends of sway bar) The sway bar should keep the body roll under control. You may have a broken shock or spring.

I didn't catch what brand & size tire yer running but tire choice & size for Toys are pretty critical because they affect the characteristics dramatically, bigger, softer compound tires like BFG's can wear down to a "loping" as you cruise about 60mph-70mph & do have a problem with "belt/band shifting" inside the tire & it could have started by the one thing we all have & on occasion still do, hitting curbs, sidewalks, rocks that don't move etc;, if you think this is nutty concept try this experiment, while you're driving aim your outside mirror towards your right rear wheel & observe all the flucuations & "warped" rotation, I'm leaning towards a tire problem, also step away from your truck & look at the sidewalls for deformaties...
