At the commuter rail station. 6-7 trucks got hit. They cut it right off, after the O2 sensor. The converter on the driver's side seems to be intact, passenger one is gone.

Questions: I thin my deductible is $500.
    1. Are there aftermarket catalytic converters that cost less than $500?
    2. If I go that route, will it void my factory warranty in any way? I am at 28k miles and warranty is only good for another 8k anyway, so I am wondering what my options are.

    Thanks for your thoughts,

You options are factory only. We have 0 luck with aftermarket cats. They always blow cat codes and sensor codes. Cats are Warr a lot longer than 3/36.

When you start having cat and sensor codes the first thing they are going to say is replace the cat.
Do yourself a big favor and go factory. Cheap means headaches. Insurance is there for a reason.

silly question, but are you sure they took the cat? I ask cause we had 3 fleet FJ cruisers towed in cause they thought they had their cats stolen. Only to find out that they had their resignators stolen off the Y pipe. Our cats are actually located up on the manifolds.

This is a picture, even though they look like cats, they are just resignators. Thats why the O2 sensors are before these (pictured), not after.

whats weird is i have looked inside these pipes and see no cat material, the more i research in TIS, they are for some reason calling those 2 way cats, but i have never seen a cat without an O2 sensor following it, i still believe they are just resignators, but unfortunately i am doubting myself right now and will reasearch more when i get to work tomorrow.

i know, i was checking it out based on my truck, but like i said, i have looked in the pipes before and see no cat material and no O2 sensor. I am still standing behind my previous statement.

That might very we'll explain why they stopped at one rather than cutting off both.

Really good question. They definitely took the "exhaust pipe assembly front" section in the diagram above. I can definitely see the O2 sensor still on the truck right before where they sliced. So what they took is downstream of the O2 sensor.

And I don't have the CEL light. The car just sounds really loud and down on power though. If the cat is removed, would it throw a CEL?

Where is our cat located again, if not in the pumpkin?

cats are attatched to the exhaust manifolds. Nowhere near the pumpkin.

charocal filter delete/kn intake, rear cat delete. horn mod, 20% tint front windows, bull bar, M1 Full Syn, black plasti dip emblems. Next up aero turbine 2525xl muffler
replace with straight pipes. cats are worthless. put in o2 simulators, or o2 helpers from Bigdaddiesgarage.com.

Interesting advice. Have you ever smelled a car or truck that had it's cat(s) removed?

How would you recommend someone pass state emmission laws without cats?

The truck runs fine without the back 2 "cats".

Per the Chiltons 2005-009 Tacoma repair manual...

"On the V6 models there are 4 catalytic converters (two per cylinder bank.) The upstream (warm up) catalysts are integral parts of the exhaust manifolds. The downstream catalysts are located in the two-piece front exhaust pipe, one per cylinder bank. The two downstream catalysts can be replaced separately."
If I'm not mistaking I believe those are the two that are shown in the above diagram and are the most accessable to thiefs.

"On the four-cylinder models there are two catalytic converters, both of which are integral components of the front exhaust pipe assembly that connects the exhaust manifold to the rest of the exhaust system. This is a one-piece assembly, so if either catalyst fails you must replace the entire assembly."
