Another idea... Wouldn't it be better to have the catch can on the line which goes from passenger side valve cover to the intake? Technically that would eliminate gunk going through throttle body...

    What do you think?

That would work, and would be a good idea as well. Except that on N/A and roots style S/C, that hose which you are referring to, is where the fresh air goes into the PCV system. Which then in turn gets sucked through the driver side valve cover.

All of that changes when you add a turbo or centrifical s/c.

If you don't mind me asking, how much was that setup when all was said and done? The can looks pretty exposed. Wouldn't it be really easy for the tire to kick up road debris and smash the can or knock a hose off?

Don't you want to mount the OCC lower than the outlet/inlets you are hooking it up to?

Not necessary. The oil in the vapor will still collect just the same, on these vehicles.

When I had my '10 Camaro I used a catch can and of course it did its job. Glad to see that the "problem" exists now and the rem is still the same.

I just came across this tread and was wondering where to connect the line on a 2012 NA 4.0. Could someone post a pic if you have this mod on a 2012.

    Thanks for the help.

Just bought my first taco and love it.

Primary use would be on forced-induction engines, but they have their use on any engine.

The PCV system is closed-loop and connects the crankcase vapors to the intake. Oil vapors from the crankcase are drawn through the intake and into the engine.
This hastens the formation of deposits on the back of intake valves, carbon in the cylinders, and "mung" around the throttle body butterfly.

Adding the catch can provides an area where the vapors will change velocity and direction, which allows for the oil suspended to drop out and cleaner air is drawn into the intake.
Adding scotchbrite or other fibrous materials to the can provides additional opportunity for the oil to precipitate out.

    Lots baby!

I think I may have spent about $40.

I have run the set up for a couple of years with no problems. I am an X-Runner, so no off roading. While the catch can is exposed, it is in front of the wheel. If it was behind the wheel it would catch a lot of crap.

As I'm a 4x4 it is out of reach of the wheel if it was stuffed all the way, probably a couple of inches clearance. It stays surprisingly clean for it being right there in the front. I give mine a wash each time i wash the truck. Real easy being right there in the wheel well area.
