Bed rail bolts aren't grounded, at least not well enough for leds to light up or swr to change. Try grounding to the frame.

    Better yet, ditch the Firestik.

Agreed. But, sometimes when what you got isn't working it may be time to try something different. I had 2 Firestiks I could never get the SWR low enough mounted in the bed.

Looking to mount my CB this weekend and found this thread. Very helpful. After you went through the grommet under the drivers seat, did you reseal it with anything? Will a hole in the grommet allow water into the cab?

I was going to but never got around to it. I guess it will also allow water to drain out but even though I have crossed pretty deep water I've never noticed a problem with wet carpets!

Have to use an MFJ 259 B Antenna Analyzer. You have to adjust each antenna individually. To get the same impedance. Then you could hook co phase coaxial to radio and should be good to go. Unless they r quarter wave apart you cannot run extra power like 2 pill 4 pill. You Will get too much RF feedback at Swr will rise. I go back to my Wilson 5000 in the summer time right now I use two fire sticks just for hunting season.

Great write up. I’m too installing the 520XL myself in my 2005. Would like to know where I can find the inline fuse.
