Not because of a hose clamp you didn't.

    ...then replace it.

the oem clamps are not tight enough.

i have driven almost a year with these clamps and they have never exploded. i even did a 2000 mile, cross country trip at 70-80 mph and the clamps didnt budge or explode :)

I've had hose clamps on mine ever since the OP installed his. No problems yet. I have had one start to slip on me though and have since safety wired the inner and outer clamps together so that they pull against each other preventing one or the other from slipping back into their original positions.

Did mine today. The OEM FJ clamps are a little different than the Tacoma ones. Instead of being able to open up, I had to cut mine off. They made it so you can just barely pull it off the boot. Then I just used garden shears and cut them off.

Did the mod this morning. Holy shit you really have to crank down those clamps! After mod I drove to Target (3 miles round trip) and when I got home the fins had moved closer together. They weren't touching, but were close. I readjusted the boots and cinch down the clamps real tight like (cut into boot collar a bit). Lets see what happens.

ya, i really had to crank down on the clamps too, but once the clamps are tight enough, the boots wont move.

It felt like I was gonna destroy the clamps with how much I was torquing them down. The ends of the boots now flare out. You run into this at all?

i looked back at my original post and the ends on mine maybe flared out a tiny bit.

perhaps you got some grease on the shaft?
you could try loosening the clams, pushing the boot all the way in so all the fins are touching, and then whipe the shaft off so that there is no grease on it. then expand the boot and reclamp.
    its worth a try.

Under the boot between the boot and the CV? Or just around the edge where it meets the CV?

Just a bead around the CV, then slid "just the tip" over the bead and clamped it down with the hoes clamp....
