Too much to list, but enough to get me in trouble. Repeatedly.
    Yup.
    Nope.

I have one where the grease is seeping under the clamp, but that's my fault, as I slid it too far and had to back it out, thereby allowing some grease between the boot and the shaft. Nothing major, but it is annoying.

Just gonna throw it out there that the hose clamp mod "prolongs" the cv boot after a lift, it will not prevent tears

Driver boot started leaking. Looks like the clamp might have cut it. I think the clamp shifted in. The passenger side is perfectly fine. Dealer is picking it up tomorrow. Fingers crossed

So I got the boot covered under warranty at the dealership. After thinking about it I remember running over a flattened can that got thrown up by the car in front of me. That might have cut the boot. Dunno but at least it got fixed for free :headbang:

I had to work mine side to side a bit to loosen it up and then they were able to slide back and forth. I did all four and then safety wired the inside and outside clamps together with wire...no problems yet and it has been 7k miles.

    yup.

I have about 28k miles on this mod now and it is still preventing the boots from wearing a hole in the ribs.

Just a thought. I've got around 115,000 miles on my truck, been lifted most of those, CV boots have always touched, no leaks or tears. Not sure it's an issue worth messing around with and possibly causing damage. Just my $.02

I wonder if you aren't right on. If we had pure rubber boots that would ball and flake off. These have silicon in them and become self lubing. What's more they move together since its one piece. It folds and unfolds. I'm sure it wears more than a non lifted truck, but enough to wear all the way through? I kinda doubt it. Now failure from being stretched beyond the molds rest point? This I can see.
This thread has been around a while so to each his own.

    I thought this requires clarification:

I pulled out the inner and outer boots for both axles and put clamps on both the inner and outer boots. I then safey wired the outside clamp on the inner boot to the inside clamp on the outer boot. This way, neither the inside boot or the outside boot can slide without pulling on the other boot.

i know this is an old post but... i had a similar idea but with some good grip glue i use on the dirt bikes. wonder which would hold better. probably both the same since it's only helping a tiny bit.

doing this mod soon but going with something other than a super cheap worm drive clamp. i dont want to cut the boot end from the crazy forces needed to hold the boot in place.

    good idea!

and to FATacos point... i dont think it's simply the boots touching because they rotate at the same speed. cleanliness of the boot has a lot to do with it (IMO). if there is grit in there from off-roading, this will cause more friction and wear.

i dealt with this on my lowered 4x4 (street truck) with boots totally smashed against each other. i kept the boots super clean, wiped with silicone or similar often, and never had a problem.

well... the right inner boot finally tore and then it sprayed grease all over the place. it had lasted about 36k miles with the lift. I guess its the price you pay for modifying the truck :)
the left inner boot is still good though :)

Also one thing to remember the outer cv boots are made of a thermo plastic, and do not last as long as the old school boots,so the idea of reposition with a better clamp is way better. I am in a slow process of replacing the outer boots with all pro boots.

Hey, interesting mod...have you done much off roading with this? I would be interested to see if you over stretch the boot and invert the rubber fins. I don't know if they would go back to the normal position on their own after inverting? looks like something good to check...thanks for posting!
