    Hello,

I replaced the old brake fluid. Had NOT been changed in 10+ years so I figured it's likely time to replace

I replaced ATF fluids as well with help from you guys in this forum. The new fluids look ruby red and the old was milk brown with little red color to it.

Now, I want to replace the Radiator fluid also named engine coolant by dealership. My question is should I buy the engine coolant from dealership "Toyota long life coolant" or can I buy aftermarket equivalent from autoparts store where I can buy cheapest?

Thanks again for your help. I am looking for a video on this on YouTube on 2002 Tacoma Prerunner SR5 2.7L (4cyL)

Same here Zerex red although that was the recommended for my 2015 replacement for Toyota Super Long Life Coolant.
Not sure what was used in 2002. Check zerex website

    https://team.valvolineglobal.com/product-recommender?engine_id=aedad0748998ee1dea6872a67748694e&year=2002&make=Toyota&model=Tacoma (1995-2004)&engine=Tacoma 2.7 16V 4WD (CAN), RZN 161/171 (2002-2003)&mileage=75,000+&retailer=&path=productfinder

Go to bottom of screen and select coolant. They do list zerex red as an option.

The radiator itself is probably fine if the truck isn't getting hot, and if it isn't leaking. Replacing it isn't at all bad thing to do, but may just be unnecessary. That to me would come down to $, if spending more money on a radiator means delaying more important maintenance then I would skip it for now. If moneys no object, absolutely throw a fresh rad in there.

The hoses are very easy, with the coolant drained you just pull off the hoses and put new ones on. They're just held on by some hose clamps. The lower hose will spill some coolant out of the block when removed, even if you drained the radiator, so just be ready for that.

Since you're replacing the hoses you might as well replace the thermostat while you're in there. The thermostat can cause the engine to overheat if it fails, so its good preventative maintenance. 90% of the work to replace it is draining the coolant and removing the lower hose, so if you're already that far all you have to do unbolt the thermostat housing and swap in a new one.

Never have I ever changed brake, p.steering or trans. fluid in any vehicle I've owned since 1996.
2 vehicles that I put over 200k ea. on before trading.
    My 2 cents.
    Not advice or recommendations.

I just did my brake and power steering fluids. Both came out completely black. No noticeable change in the brake feel, however the steering has definitely gotten better. It was very stiff before, and now feels much smoother.

    I suppose.
One of those things that gets worse, so slowly, over time that you don't notice until you actually change it.

You can purchase properly molded as in already formed in the right shape from many aftermarket suppliers. Just un-clamp reinstall and thats it.
I much prefer the original style constant tension spring style band clamps over the worm gear kind.

You don't need to mold/shape the hoses. If you by the direct replacements they are already shaped to fit just like the originals.
An example of molded upper rad hose

And you are the first person to actually connect my username with the show Babylon 5. I have the completed 5 seasons on DVD plus the Movies plus the lost tales etc. Quite a fan of a series that no one though would last more than one season.

    Hi,

Do I buy 1 one upper hose and 1 lower hose? I have not replaced hoses before and don't own the car I just repair my in-laws truck now‍. Are all the hoses the same?

"Joe davola" is the enemy of Jerry Seinfeld and Cosmo Kramer. I like and have all Seinfeld seasons.

I have all of B5 as well. I bought the DVDs years ago as they came out on sale to save money and then backed them up in my hardrive to stream on my home network in any room. That way I can see them anywhere and they DON'T get scratched or lost in the house like batteries. No one in this house steal batteries, BUT my remotes batteries are ALWAYS empty and game controller's never stop working‍.

I put on B5 1-5 seasons once a year and for some reason everyone clears out..... I suspect they don't like scyfi

    Me and my daugh

Normally yes. One upper and one lower. And there are various smaller heater hoses as well if you are doing them all..

My daughter and I tried to binge watch as many B5 episodes as we could till we couldn't stay awake any longer. We got to 14

Hi, which are the hoses to replace? I thought there was only 2 hoses to worry about.

All I saw were upper and lower molded hoses on rock auto link you sent....

Can the "smaller heater hoses" fail and cause engine over heating? When should those be replaced?

If any of these fail you will lose coolant .. So yes bad news.

You are going to have to familiarize yourself with the terminology and be able to navigate the web site. Heater hose under heating and cooling .... heater hose.

Yeah there's a number of fluid hoses that run to/accross the back of the engine.

the 2 heater hoses, the throttle body hose off the heater hose, and the egr coolant hose if yours has one.

thats like 5 hoses counting the one from throttle body to ect sensor valve on back of the head...

Are those silicone hoses or just blue?

And note in his picture, some carry coolant and some are just vacuum hoses.
