Scrubbed some tires, and knocked a dent out.
In his defense, these trucks make noise.

If that was the noise it was making Id have checked on it way before hand. But his dad bought a brand new truck. Why would the average person (or anyone really) not at least expect a brand new from the factory vehicle to not be grenading itself before 10k miles?

I've had 2 different dealers here in MI not rotate tires during the Toyota Service on 2 separate new vehicles. I used a paint marker to put dots on the front tires, and the explanation I got from the service writer at the 2nd dealer for the '23 T4R just pissed me off. I was told the tech. rotated the tires side to side. She even went back and talked to him to verify that's what he did. I kindly called bullshit and had them rotate them correctly.

So no, I don't trust dealers for shit!

I dont understand what the big deal is. If you don't trust that dealer have a different one look at it. It is still under warranty so if the diff needs to be replaced, let the replace it. I certainly wouldnt trade it in on an SR5. Why would you assume something else is wrong with it just because there is a problem with the diff......I mean that is probably why they just came out with the recall. Just get it fixed and move on

Tacoma is only built in Mexico since mid 2021. Also, its components are built all over the world. The front diff on mine is from Japan

this is what keeps this forum so entertaining.

GUYZ, I HAD TO CHANGE THE OIL. TIME TO TRADE IT IN. I THOUGHT TOYOTA'S WERE RELIABLE.

GYZ, I HAD ONE LIGHT BULB BURN OUT. THAT'S IT. I'M GETTING A KIA.

clearly none of these people have ever seen the maintenance on a helicopter, which has a similar amount of moving parts...

The average person typically doesn’t change their own oil at 5k… So the knowledge is there, they heard an unusual noise by their own description. I would have either taken it in or pulled the upper plug and checked rear diff fluid which is way more simple than changing the motor oil. Regardless of all this it’s covered under warranty and I find it a plus + that the dealer found and acknowledged the issue.

My 2007 Corolla needed a new exhaust gasket at 18 k, in 2008. Next major failure was an accessory belt tensioner at 250k, in 2023.

Toyota is fixing the differential for free. You need to stop over-reacting.

You’d be loosing money by going to an SR5. Things happen, stuff breaks.

I’d let them fix it, drive it, and give it a month. It’s easy to make irrational decisions when you’re upset.

Needless to say, I think keeping it would be the better decision.

Shift knob material doesn’t matter as that was built years in the past

I just ask cause typically batches of cars/trucks have the issue based on where it was made

So you/he took it in 3 times or 1 time or what?
Like someone else and this site shows the recall is only a paper notice and no actual work has started.
    You post seems odd.

Not doing a very good job if he is. Pretty strange post to me. I was an auditor at 1 time so I am used to random and fractured information but I can't follow it.
