If it’s its just the whining between 80-90 km, that’s totally normal and I’ve had that on all 6 of my Tacomas I’ve had.

Exactly i was/am still confused. It’s like someone trying to recall a conversation they overheard someone having on a loud subway. Also doesn’t seem to be the OPs truck yet he is very much keen on shitting on it.

I took my 2023 in because of this same whining noise and they put out a TSB for a fix. Just got off work to a text saying they are going to replace the entire rear differential. Have you had any issues since having it replaced?

I’ve had 6 3rd Gen Tacomas and every single one had whining between 80-90 km per hour. There’s nothing wrong with the differential, it’s some kind of harmonic vibration of the frame that’s making the noise.

This was the TSB they put out. They originally told me it was just tire noise and my tires were wearing down. I took the service manager for a drive to show him and he said yea we will do the TSB. Now tech says there's an internal groaning noise and Toyota wants to just replace it.

Due for a free oil change with Toyotacare. Its 35 miles round trip, so almost $6 in gas. Plus 2 hours of my free time. And then I assume at least one cross threaded skid plate bolt and two damaged lug nuts. The skid plate bolts are $2 each and the lug nuts cost $10 each.

On second thought, I can get an OEM filter and a case of oil shipped to me for $29 and have it done in 25 mins.

    Dilemma...

Exactly. I'm an old geezer and I'm afraid if I get up under I'll never be able to crawl out again.
I drive 3 miles to an independent shop that specializes in Toyota. All the dudes there are sporting Tacomas.
Good work at a reasonable price and I tip whoever did the deed $5-$10 bucks so they are happy to see me again.
