Ordered a sofftopper so decided to make a sleeping platform, after seeing how some guys did it I decided to go the "keep it simple stupid" method and use 2 2x6 (about 57 inches across) and 3/4 inch plywood cut in half down the middle (so it would be easier to quickly remove opposed to one giant piece since one piece would not only be cumbersome but probably too heavy for some people to remove alone)

Anyboo it turned out to be a lot more time consuming than I thought lol. At home depot they sell the 2x6 in 10 foot lengths which works out perfect since I just had them cut it in half. The 3/4 plywood they sold those in weird dims (I'm totally spacing out) so I had to buy 2 sheets and had them cut those to about 30 inches across each. (Keep in mind you'll have to do some cutting when you get home, I did anyway).

Total cost for the wood came out to $58

Few things I totally did not anticipate like a dumbass, everything is not perfectly 90 degrees and by that I mean down by the tailgate theres that little 45 degree turn which is not biggie because I cut it out with a jig.

As for the carpets, I'm glad I gave myself some space between the plywood and sides of the bed because the carpet is pretty plush and took more space than I thought. (It was left over carpet my bro in law gave me from when they did their house). I know the consensus is everyone used staples but I dont have a staple gun or staples so I actually used very short drywall screws and seems to be holding up but will update if they fail. Plus I ran out of carpet lmao since he only gave me about 3 squares.

It took me a total about 4 hours from start to finish including the home depot run.20190912_165923.jpg 20190912_125138.jpg

You lost me at "dcsb sleeping". You must not have the same height disadvantage that I do.

I'm 5'10 but a guy on YouTube sleeps in his dcsb when camping and I think he said he's 6'1 (we obviously sleep diagonally and since the platform is above the wheel wells you get more than enough room if you're 6'0

Granted the pythagorean theorem says it's possible for a 6 foot person to sleep in a 5 foot bed, but it can't be comfortable. At 5'10" you might do okay. I'm 6'2" and it's barely comfortable for me to sleep in my long bed. edit: This is the one and only reason I wouldn't buy a truck with a 5 foot bed.
