I traded in my first truck and it was a huge mistake. I'll never go without a truck again. The TRD Sport I linked it nicer :p I wouldn't get it for the same. Impossible... my credit took a hit when we bought our house.

This upstanding fellow is correct. You have a very low mileage Tacoma.

WHY DO PEOPLE WANT TO TRADE NEARLY-NEW VEHICLES ALL THE TIME? </rant off>

Granted, I did it because I hated having a 5-lugger, and it was a terrible financial move... but why do you want to move up for the sake of moving up in model year? That's just peeing money away, amigo.

Of course the dealer wants to trade! You bought a new car, took the depreciation hit for them, now they can buy it back at a discount and sell you a new one to do it all over again.

If you wanna be their money machine, go for it. ;)

For me, it was immaturity and/or lack of significant responsibilities...marriage, homeownership, age and subsequent divorce corrected all of that for me.

Getting a new car is simply fun for many of us. The payments grow old though. :D

I get the thrill of a new car or whatever. I do not get going from an 09 to an 11. It's the same damn vehicle. I may just be too practical...

Also, why would you think only of payments? You can pay off a car, I also don't get why people assume they'll always have a car payment.

I've had my truck paid for since 6 months after I bought it...

I've had a Chevy S10... I traded it in when I started college because of the mileage difference and I drove nearly 400 miles a week just for school. When we got married, my MIL wanted us to buy their '98 old Galant my wife was driving for $4000. I told her no and gave her my Mazda 3. I bought my Taco without a trade in. So I really don't think I made bad decisions with vehicles.

I am 99.9% sure nothing will come from this.

If a car dealership said you can get it for the same price or less it's gotta be true...they wouldn't lie.

It's really a win win for the dealership. They can move a new unit off the lot and get a fairly new vehicle in on trade. Used car sales is where the money is at.

Dealerships do this all the time. Happened to me in the summer, a guy called me up saying they have low inventory in their used car lot and they want my truck. they were throwing all these offers at my left and right and i kept telling them i would not sell my truck.

Looking back maybe i shoulda listened closely to their offer cause now im thinking about getting a Tundra

It has nothing to do with low used car inventory (though of course they say that so you'll think they need your car.) Every dealer does this to everyone who buys new cars from them between the 1 and 2 year mark. They just want to buy back a depreciated vehicle, make markup on it, and stick you with a new one, making markup on that too.

I suppose there are exceptions to every rule. I more meant that people reading this shouldn't imagine the dealers are actually giving them a deal. In reality, they're just skewering as much cash out of their customers as possible.
