Here's the deal. Bought a new 2017 TRD with a small scratch in the hood (1/2" down to the metal) from Toyota of San Diego. Didn't bother me too much at the time because the salesperson said "we have the best body shop in SD" and will get this taken care of for you no worries. Ok, cool fair enough.

4 tries later and several weeks of rental cars they FINALLY got it right, well as right as that particular bunch of employees could or cared to. Each time being told your truck is ready come check it out and each time noticing their complete lack of competence. I am still extremely pissed off about the situation as all they offered was a $100 gift card, "we're sorry" and a full tank of gas. I think I am in a pretty good position to ask for more and I have, but its been a back and forth type thing.

So far I said what about a TRD cat back or CAI for my troubles? Then the body shop manager said he can get me a deal blah blah blah. I don't think I should pay a dime for the shit they put me through!

What would you guys do? :annoyed:

Be glad it got fixed for free and stop feeling entitled that a repair and $150 in free gas and gift card isn't enough for your emotional despair.

So sue them, or stop whining.

Nowhere in your service contract or work order does it say "customer satisfaction guaranteed, or customer will receive free TRD exhaust/cold air intakes."

Unhappy customers happen with every business, and nobody owes you $1k in freebies.

Go hit up Yelp if you want, otherwise you're being irrational.

What you are owed is what was agreed at the time of sale. Any thing you get above and beyond that, is a bonus. Would I ask for more, yes. Would I use them again, NO

If its fixed they did their job, if the rental was free they did their job, if they gave you some added freebies be thankful. If they have a return policy, return the truck. But from the sounds of it, they did what they were suppose to on a new truck, so be thankful they fixed the issue and did not cause any more damage.

My truck had two damaged fender flares. They replaced the flares no questions.
Eventually one of the replaced flares lost its seal. They replaced that flare no question. Shit happens.

Wait you knowingly bought a damaged vehicle and then "took the salesman word for it" that they'd fix it? Ouch.

    Yes.

    And it was, right?

Does it say you get free stuff? If you want exhaust, buy it.

If you're unsatisfied with their service then I'd let them hear about it on their Survey if you're sent one. They usually come via email. Also you can go online to Yelp and/or Google and post reviews. You could contact the Service Manager or Dealership General Manager first and give them an opportunity to compensate you for the poor / unsat service. Otherwise I don't think you have much recourse.

Can't wait to see what OP will post when he has a real problem.

    ---

Taking four attempts to get it right is a pain, I can definitely see that. But they got it right, and that's the end of it. Anything on top is a bonus.

If you're interested in the trd exhaust, in addition to your gift card, I would ask for the trd exhaust at cost and free install. Anything over that I'd say, (IMO), would be pushing it.

They'd all be whining too if it was their truck. Don't sweat it, and besides, you can always do a hood swap, although I would of told them to Fuck off if there was a scratch to metal on a 35k dollar truck and walked away. Fuck em, you don't owe dealers a damn thing, if it was up to me , they wouldn't even exist, they're nothing but a third party leech to manufacturers anyhow trying to bilk you out of your cash. Take it for what it's worth and enjoy your new truck.

Bingo. OP willingly signed up for this headache.

Bodywork is pretty much never perfect. Accepting a brand-new vehicle with body damage is a big mistake, and suggests OP was in a "I want it noooooowwww" frenzy (been there myself, I know the feel), and was willing to overlook the scratch in the heat of the moment. Now he's paying for it.

Yep, sounds about right. Always have to be willing to walk away. It's easy, I've done it plenty of times.
