As one who "ripped" on the OP here too, I must say this is the one bit of truly excellent advice posted here!

One thing that kept crossing my mind is that after 4 re-sprays over an original factory finish, no matter how good that 4th & final job was, this truck is going to look like sh!t in a few short years. I'd want to keep the factory finish in as good shape as I can, unmolested, for as long as I can. Paint repairs, unless done at extremely high cost by the best in the business, will always show against factory paint in relatively short order.

This is great advice, which if the OP had before going down his road with the dealer, may have gotten him that performance exhaust after all. And I was not joking about my touch-up paint and a toothpick comment - I had a neighbor who owned a body shop come over & fix a deep scratch in my super white taco. I gave him my paint code, he picked up a sample and filled in the scratch with a toothpick and a steady hand. I have to search to find it now, years later.

Yours is one piece of advice that will stick with me every time I buy a new vehicle. Thanks!!!

Looks like there's gonna be a shit storm at that dealership when the OP starts having transmission and howling rear-end problems...

Then WTF is the problem? They made you whole and then some. Move on and start modding that truck. You have already wasted valuable time.

    .
I remembered when my ex bought a new Honda and there was a big scratch on the inside windshield ... probably from the detailer's ring at delivery.

The dealer took the car back and did the paperwork and delivered a new one.

It took a couple of hours to redo the paperwork.

FWIW ... I NEVER let the dealer clean the vehicle ... take delivery in the daytime on a dry day and check it closely ... take it home and immediately wash it to look for small problems.

works on that too, but don't expect a free TRD exhaust and $100 gas card with it

No, just kidding you....Both are real issues to varying degrees though...I believe the excessive shifting of the transmission is more prevalent than the howling rear differential...Both seem to be being addressed somewhat by Toyota , again to varying degrees of satisfaction.

Hopefully you won't experience any issues at all.
