    This question could be a little 'tarded...:cool:

    ...but what is the purpose of the teflon tape?:confused:

    I assume to get a better seal, but it seems like it would tear when tightening it down (possibly making things worse). i don't have any experience with teflon tape, so this could be a very ignorant question. Why not just screw the union adapter? I saw someone say they wouldn't want to overtighten it, but surely tightening til it stops spinning freely and then another quarter turn wouldn't over torque it....right?

    Teflon tape (or paste) is the method that PREVENTS leaking past the threads. Anyone working with water, gas or other pipelines wrap teflon tape or paste on the threads before screwing the pipe and/or fittings together. If you don't use a thread sealant then you can expect leaks. The exception is if it is a 'surface sealed' instead of a 'thread sealed' connection, in which case a washer or gasket is the sealing agent between the two parts, as in a garden hose to a hose bib.

    You risk breaking the part if you over-tighten to stop a leak, when teflon will stop the leak with little more than hand tight application.

    I just did the breather mod but added my own spin to it.
    The company I work for allows me access to all sorts of cool stuff, I could have gone the easy route using the Toyota OEM parts #
    $14 90404-51026 Intake Air Control Valve Union
    90404-51026 Camry union and
    $8 90930-03136 Toyota Breather Plug - 90930-03136
    90930-03136 breather union but decided to try a different approach.
    From my work I bought a 1/8" BSPT 1/4" brass hose barb (not pictured), this threads into the rear differential, this is the same thread pitch as the Toyota OEM breather. I also picked up a brass bulk head fitting, 90 degree elbow and a breather vent.

    I decided on the large cubby for the mounting location, I drilled a 3/4" hole and installed the bulk head fitting, vent and elbow.

    I installed the hose and ran along the top of the frame leaving enough slack for rear end travel. I like how clean it looks.

    I also picked up some slotted t-nuts and a couple of vinyl coated J hooks and mounted my shovel.

    I used Velcro straps to hold the shovel in place.

    For the shovel mount

    I also have four each case hardened black oxide steel partial thread T-slot nuts. These are the perfect fit for our bed rails. Bolt size is 3/8-16, I went with the partial thread as I didn't want the bolt damaging the rail if it was to long. I will include one 3/8-16 x 5/8" hex flange head cap screw with each T-nut. $5.50 each shipped, I was selling these for $5.00 shipped, now due to PayPal being so F'n greedy my price shipped is $5.50, sorry for the increase.
