    Thanks... I have seen those photos before... On the Tacoma, the E-locker breather has a tube already and is routed up into the cross member and out of sight. While extending it up higher or joining it with the bigger differential tube (as shown in the FJ pics) would be fine... It is already much higher than the stock differential breather which was only 18" off the ground.

    Going into a water crossing that is 18 inches deep isn't all that unusual. So, the need to raise it up was serious... as I got water into mine when the truck was only 5 months old. Changing it to a 2 way breather also will prevent the real cause of contamination: vacuum suction past the axle seals during a sudden temperture differential (hot gears in cold water). Anyway, if the rear e locker failed on the trail... it wouldn't hurt the '09 + Tacomas too much, since we have A-TRAC whick is akin to lockers front and rear.

    they told me that it is a specialty item and that they have to order them. but maybe you’r will have them in stock.

    On the first page of this thread I provided ALL details and even a photo of the parts from Toyota with part numbers...

    IMO, it's as good for keeping pressures low for longer seal life as it is good for keeping water out. The pressure relief happens much more often than I drive in water that deep........

    Interesting point... the stock rear breather is really a PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE, as it only opens to atmosphere when pressure inside the diff. exceeds the spring force holding the valve closed.

    The front differential has a true breather (two way opening, lets pressure out... and if a vacuum is created by dipping in cool water, it lets air into the diff. to break the vacuum)!

    This mod really is installing a true breather on the rear differential, in place of the pressure relief valve, but at a higher location to prevent water from getting in.
